“Sul Vulcano” Bianco Etna DOC 2021
Donnafugata's impressive declaration of love for Etna, currently the hottest wine hotspot, began with the Sul Vulcano line. Carricante is one of southern Italy's most exciting grape varieties, capable of complexity and terroir-driven expression in the right soils. The vines for Donnafugata's only white wine from Etna grow on volcanic soils rich in minerals at 700-750 metres above sea level. The wine is fermented in steel tanks before being aged partly in concrete tanks and partly in second and third choice barriques for 10 months and then in bottle for a further nine months.
Straw yellow with golden reflections. Bouquet of white flowers and wild herb and citrus notes. On the palate it is full, fresh and spicy and closes with impressive freshness, elegance and an exciting mineral vein. SUPERIORE.DE

“Ben Ryé" Passito di Pantelleria DOP 2021 dolce
Ben Ryé - the great naturally sweet and world-famous white wine from Donnafugata. The grapes are harvested in mid-August and left to dry naturally for 20 to 30 days. In September, the later ripening grapes are harvested and processed fresh. The hand-picked raisined berries are added to the must in several stages during fermentation. Light orange yellow in colour. Overwhelming aromas of apricot, peach and orange peel. Creamy notes of passion fruit and peach on the palate with an impressive elegance and length. For us, one of the best sweet wines in Italy every year! SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant orange with golden reflections, elegant. Enormous aroma of peaches and peach tea, honey, honeycomb, with a fine hint of nutmeg, dried apricots, bergamots and oranges. Wonderfully balanced on the palate, creamy-oily texture, with clear, radiant peach fruit, well-balanced interplay between sugar and acidity, lingers endlessly in many layers, with a final of dried figs." Falstaff
"Complex flavours of sultanas, caramel, honey, iced tea, peaches and vanilla. Creamy on the palate, with a zesty acidity." Decanter
"The 2021 Ben Ryé is a real pleasure. It seduces with a bouquet that mixes sweet smoke with mandarins, mint leaves and cloves. Like pure nectar, it envelops everything it touches on the palate with ripe fruit trees and tropical melon. Sweet spices and sour citrus fruits contrast towards the end. The finish is savoury and long, leaving a dusty, floral note and a hint of candied ginger and lime. Ben Ryé is always an absolute delight and, in my opinion, one of the best dessert wines in Italy. This single varietal Zibibbo finishes with 197 grams of residual sugar per Liters." Vinous
"A rich, luxurious sweetie, with flavors of orange glacée, pink grapefruit sorbet, spun honey, apple peel and butterscotch melting on the palate like cotton candy. A bright tang of citrusy acidity and a touch of salinity give this good cut and form, while fragrant hints of lavender, cardamom, white chocolate and Earl Grey waft in on the long, lasting finish." Wine Spectator
"This wine has a light copper colour and a copper-coloured aroma. On the nose, yellow peaches and dried apricots play with various orange notes. On the palate, stone fruit and citrus continue to shine before a warm, honeyed, almost syrupy finish reminiscent of a beeswax candle." Wine Enthusiast

“Tancredi Edizione Dolce & Gabbana” Rosso Terre Siciliane IGT 2020 · in gift box
"Tancredi Dolce & Gabbana" Limited Edition represents the collaboration between two iconic brands that are recognised beyond the country's borders as ambassadors of Sicilian culture and Italian excellence. The joint commitment of these two companies to elegance, craftsmanship and creativity brilliantly reinterprets this historic cuvée of the winery. To mark the occasion, Tancredi has been given an exclusive Dolce & Gabbana label since the 2018 vintage, with an aesthetic that pays homage to both Italy's baroque-aristocratic tradition and the revolutionary values that emerged in Sicily after the country's unification.
This noble Sicilian is mainly made from Nero d'Avola and Cabernet Sauvignon, the latter enriching the aroma spectrum with a subtle minty facet. In addition, the bouquet is refined by sweet mineral graphite, tones of liquorice, cocoa, sour cherries and blueberries. The excellent, broad and enveloping flavour structure is confirmed in the final of considerable length. SUPERIORE.DE

“Contrada Marchesa” Rosso Etna DOC 2017
Besides Fragore, the Etna Cru, named after the Contrada Marchesa single vineyard of the same name, is Donnafugata's second top wine from the volcano. Its label is adorned by a volcano goddess decorated with flowers and fruits, beside her, the medieval village Castiglione di Sicilia appears. The Nerello vines grow on a lava soil rich in minerals, the location in the north of the volcano ensures moderate summers with strong temperature fluctuations between day and night.
This single-varietal Nerello presents itself in bright ruby red and reveals a generous bouquet of small red berries, spicy notes (cinnamon and black pepper) and undergrowth, followed by balsamic nuances and a delicate mineral vein. On the palate, besides its structure, the indescribable balance, the convincing freshness and an ultra-fine tannin delight. This great wine glides aristrocratically and full of elegance into a deep finish. SUPERIORE.DE

“Mille e una Notte” Rosso Sicilia DOC 2019
The noble version of Nero d'Avola in impenetrable dense ruby red. The fragrance is enveloping with sweet and ripe, yet not "cooked" fruity hints, balsamic and floral nuances of violets, which final with hints of tobacco. The taste presents itself with great structure and distinct individuality. The balance of the soft tannins, which are perfectly integrated into the alcoholic component, and the long finish are also convincing. SUPERIORE.DE
"The magnificent product of Tenuta Contessa Entellina, a blend of red grapes with a high percentage of Nero d'Avola with great impact on the palate, cornelian cherry on the nose, with notes of cinnamon and orange peel, density and tension on the palate, spicy tannins and a fruity and spicy finish." Luca Gardini
"Attractive red and darker berry character with dark liquorice, aged citrus peel and damp earth. Full and complex with firm tannins framing the dark and blue fruit. A chalky, mineral backbone adds structure and length, leading to a deep and long finish." James Suckling
"Hauntingly dark and spicy, the 2019 Mille e Una Notte opens with a burst of mentholated herbs, cloves, shaved cedar and crushed blackberries. It's seamlessly silky and elegant throughout. Textural waves of ripe red and black fruits ride a core of vibrant acidity, leaving balsam herbal tones, cocoa and fine-grained tannins in their wake. The 2019 finishes dramatically long and structured, with a twang of tart red plums and sage. This is a radiant yet powerful rendition of Mille e Una Notte, which will benefit from and demand cellaring." Vinous
"The Mille e una Notte 2019 is a blend of Nero d'Avola, Petit Verdot, Syrah and other complementary grapes. Tasted quite young, this wine needs more age and certainly another year or two in bottle. The oak spice needs more time to meld with the beautiful dark fruits of this classic vintage. The bouquet reveals black cherries, spices and baking chocolate. The concentration is medium-rich and the texture is velvety." Wine Advocate

The name Donnafugata - the "Woman on the run" from the famous novel "The Leopard" of the writer Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa - Giacomo and Gabriella Rallo did not choose Rallo until the 1980s. But the wineries have belonged to the family since the 19th century. The Sicilian model enterprise has long been run by the children Antonio and José with the enthusiastic involvement of culture, charity, sustainability and environmental awareness. Their roles in the oldest winery of the Mediterranean island are clearly distributed: While Antonio is in charge of production, his sister is responsible for controlling and marketing. The next generation with Gabriella and Fernando is also ready to go. In addition to all tradition, innovation is the focus of the Donnafugata wine company. A special feature: the grapes are harvested at night. This saves energy and prevents unwanted fermentation during transport.
The brilliant entry of the Rallo family into a market still standing still in the eighties and dominated only by one single brand gave Sicily's winegrowing a groundbreaking impulse. Giacomo Rallo's decision to invest not only in the Contessa Entellina headquarters in Marsala but also in Pantelleria was almost revolutionary. But the much-praised natural sweet wines crowned the adventure on the small island with its salty and calcareous soils with great success.
The impressive, well-structured range, produced in three extremely modern winemaking facilities, of the winery located in western Sicily ranges from fine fruity white wines from indigenous and international varieties, to fruity red wines, fine sweet wines, a Spumante Brut and the red, almost entirely from the local Nero d'Avola prepared Mille e Una Notte. The Zibibbo grapes, which come from a recultivated vineyard more than one hundred years old with rare vines that are true to their roots on Pantelleria, are the raw material for the world-famous sweet wine Ben Ryè.
On the path of the heroic viticulture for some years now Donnafugata, under the guidance of Antonio, winemaker of the family and custodian of craftsmanship, has also been present with its own vineyards at Etna. Nerello Mascalese is mainly cultivated here. The first vintages of wines from the volcano captivate with elegance and finesse and mark another milestone in the history of the traditional Sicilian winery.
The decision to equip the winery with a photovoltaic system shortly after the turn of the millennium was important as. Donnafugata today covers most of its energy needs with solar power. The artistic labels for the wines often inspired by literary masterpieces are part of a convincing marketing strategy: the story telling. A universal language that recounts wine and Sicily through an extraordinarily identifying fantastic and feminine language. The idea to combine music with noble drops came from José. The trained singer, who could already be heard and seen in New York, likes to combine a song with a delicious wine of the house during her performances. SUPERIORE.DE
"One year after another, the Sicilian wine landscape produced plants with plenty of structure and alcohol. In 1983 Giacomo Rallo burst into this monotony with drops that were modern, well made and pleasant to drink, heralding a new oenological age on the island. To date, the labels have lost none of their initial elegance and accommodating nature."Gambero Rosso
