"Rovittello" Rosso Riserva Etna DOC 2015

After almost thirty years of experience in the vinification of the famous Etna Rosso "Rovittello", the Benanti family decided in 2015 to extend the vinification, ageing and refinement of the wine to 60 months. The result is an exclusive Riserva, produced in small growthfrom vines more than 100 years old in plot no. 341, which is rightly considered one of the best reds in the region. The Nerello grapes (85% Mascalese/15% Cappuccio) come from a terraced vineyard (pre-phylloxera) in the Contrada Dafara Galluzzo in the upper area of Rovittello, part of the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia.

Pale ruby with light garnet tones. Fine, ethereal, floral, intense, spicy, delicate bouquet with hints of ripe fruit, young tanned leather and cedar. Firm, powerful on the palate, opening up only gradually and then revealing bit by bit its depth and secrets, marked by impressive weightlessness and elegance. An extremely harmonious red with meditation potential - mineral and of remarkable persistence! SUPERIORE.DE

"Delicate shimmering ruby red with garnet rim. Complex bouquet of pickled currant, ripe rose hips, dried rose petals, laurel and wet stone. Very dense on the palate, with finely woven tannin, tightly woven, elegant, showing beautiful harmony, persistent on the finish, on taut minerality, considerable finish." Falstaff

"The 2015 Etna Rosso Rovittello Riserva is coy and understated, offering up hints of black cherry, dusty rose and flowery undergrowth. It's silky yet youthfully dense in feel and quite savory, the salty minerals and spice taking center stage, while black fruits and grippy tannins come forward more toward the finish, and finishes youthfully dry and structured, allowing only nuances of currant and purple-tinged florals to resonate. This new Rovittello Riservais sourced from a small parcel of pre-phylloxera vines on Etna's northern slope." Vinous

"A whole garden of summer flowers pour from the glass, together with hints of cola nut and wild strawberry. A phenomenally concentrated Etna red with stunningly fine tannins that give this a structure that's as big as Mount Etna itself. So much power at the finish, yet this remains very precise and graceful. Made from over 100-year-old pre-phylloxera nerello mascalese and nerello cappuccio vines. It was 24 months in French oak, but that's almost completely invisible. Limited quantity." James Suckling
