"Pietra Marina" Bianco Superiore Etna DOC 2014

The area around the small town of Milo is the only vineyard on the Etna where Etna Bianco is allowed to be bottled as Superiore - and with good reason: only Carricante may be planted on the steep vineyard, which consists of dozens of small terraces. The vines are grown like a small tree on chestnut wood poles. The eastern exposure and the sea, which is not far away, allow the grapes to ripen late, thus achieving very constant acidity levels, resulting in a white wine of aromatic finesse and freshness that is unrivalled even on Etna.

Pietra Marina is a pure Carricante of over 80 years old vines at an altitude of about 950m from the eastern side of the volcano. In the bouquet orange blossoms and lychee, elderberry and apples. In the mouth harmonious, balanced, with perfectly integrated acidity and beautiful finish. Pronounced character, full of elegance, profound, sensual and with a stunningly clean aromatic spectrum. One of the most interesting white wines in Italy! SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant straw yellow. A nose that is a little waxy and with hints of green peach, cut lemon, and distinct stony, minerally notes. Bags of minerally lemon fruit on the palate. Transparent and balanced. Fine-textured finish and subtle. Scarce year." Jancis Robinson

"This is one of the wines that most shaped my Sicilian palate. The 2014 Etna Bianco Superiore Pietra Marina offers a rich and enduring bouquet of stone fruit, honey, toasted pistachio nuts and wild fennel. This wine is completely Sicilian in spirit and form. Of course, you will also recognize those characteristic volcanic notes of crushed mineral and salt. Fruit for Pietra Marina is sourced on the east side of Etna (in Milo) with vineyards planted at 800 meters above sea level." Robert Parker

"Benanti are the kings of this style: a Chablis-like, minerally Carricante. Beautifully balanced with hints of sea salt, delicate white flowers, acacia, honey and waxy lanolin. Everything is subtle, understated and elegant. One of Italy’s most long-lived white wines." Decanter
