• "Sopra il Pozzo" Rosso Arcurìa Etna DOC 2015
3 Bottles in OWC

“Sopra il Pozzo” Rosso Arcurìa Etna DOC 2015 · 3 Bottles in OWC

Graci's new growth Sopra il Pozzo is a "selection from selection" and comes from the vineyard of Arcurìa. It is the red archetype of an Etna Rosso, a Nerello Cru with the unique DNA of the volcanic-stony terroir. Light ruby with orange reflexes, in the nose candied fruits, cooling firewood, some anise and herbs. On the palate it is silky without being smooth, its subtle wood and delicate acid wire harmonize perfectly with the flanking tannin to an unforgettable, mineral and salty finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Medium-bright, warm red; mature-peppery, arouses curiosity; peppery-maturing, certain fullness, fine astringency." Merum

"Bright garnet red with a fine shimmer. Emphasizes fragrant nose, of rhubarb, pomegranate and raspberry. Bright on the palate, it shows a lot of present fruit, especially pomegranate and raspberry, then opens up with dense, pithy tannin, firm pressure and long final, in the final accentuated salty notes". Falstaff

"Pale ruby-garnet. Ripe, scented maraschino cherry, with hazelnut and subtle smoky complexity. Sweet-savoury, flinty cherry palate fruit, with sandy, firm tannic structure and quite bright acidity. Long, smoky-spicy finish. Power over elegance." Jancis Robinson

"This was the first vintage of an outstanding parcel within Arcuria that henceforth is bottled separately. For all the excellence of the regular 2015, this is different, with richer raspberry aromas and greater aromatic weight. It's very elegant and silky, highly concentrated with fine acidity. It's more skeletal now than the regular wine: taut, lingering and very long." Decanter

"This is a new wine from Alberto Graci with fruit sourced from the part of his vineyard holding located "above the well" in the Contrada Arcuria not too far from the Graci winery. The beautiful 2015 Etna Rosso Arcurìa Sopra il Pozzo pours from the bottle with medium intensity and mild ruby intensity. You might mistake this wine for a Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo if you were to judge by appearance alone. However, the bouquet shows that strong volcanic character that is unmistakable in the red wines from Etna; wild berries, blue flowers, red currant, licorice, mountain herbs and crushed stone all play leading roles on the bouquet." Graci's second vintage Sopra il Pozzo is a "selection from selection" and comes from the Arcurìa vineyard. It is the red archetype of an Etna Rosso, a Nerello cru with the clear DNA of the volcanic-stony terroir. Pale ruby with orange highlights, the nose has candied fruit, cooling firewood, some anise and herbs. The palate is silky without being slippery, its subtle wood and delicate acid wire harmonizing perfectly with the flanking tannin into an unforgettable mineral-salty finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"A refined red, drawing you into the glass with delicate notes of cardamom and tea rose, aromatic accents to the flavors of wild strawberry, iron, espresso bean and dried fig that ripple on the lightly plush palate. Take your time with this, and let the flavors expand with each sip, through to the lightly chewy, lingering finish." Wine Spectator

    • "Didacus" Chardonnay Sicilia Menfi DOC 2018
6 Bottles in OWC

“Didacus” Chardonnay Sicilia Menfi DOC 2018 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Didacus is the youngest growth from Planeta and comes from the first vines planted in 1985 on the shores of Lake Ulm. It is dedicated to Diego Planeta, the founder of the winery, and on the one hand, it represents the history of the winery, on the other hand, it stands for elegance, tradition, family, and future. At the same time, it embodies Planeta's vision of Sicilian viticulture at the highest level.

This Chardonnay comes from the best grapes of just 4 hectares of Chardonnay, all hand selected, pressed and fermented in barriques. With just 6,996 bottles, this drop is hand-picked for distribution to the best importers and restaurants worldwide.

straw yellow with golden reflexes. Fine fragrance of herbs, white pome fruit, lychee and a hint of vanilla. Very complexly built, still needs further bottle maturity until it unfolds all its elegance and minerality in a terrific long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

    • "Contrada Zottorinoto" Rosso Riserva Etna DOC 2014
6 Bottles in OWC

“Contrada Zottorinoto” Rosso Riserva Etna DOC 2014 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Only about 2,000 bottles are filled every year by this noble Riserva. With a full aroma of black berries, balsamic nuances and spices and a full and clear taste, this great wine excellently combines finesse, elegance and softness. SUPERIORE.DE

"Powerful, radiant ruby with garnet. Opened with notes of ripe, small blackberries, some plum, behind which iodine and liquorice. Full-bodied and dense at the beginning and the end, fine dark berry fruit, opens with present, dense tannin, in the final after liquorice." Falstaff

"Moderately saturated ruby-red. Clean, flinty and characterized typically by darker fruit aromas and flavors than all of the other Cottanera red wines. Finishes with slow building but noble tannins and a multilayered quality. Zottorinotto evolves at a much slower pace than other Etna reds, so I’d suggest forgetting about this in your cellar for the next couple of years." Vinous

"What a nose with tulips, dried rose petals, burnt oranges, pomegranate, mandarins, cinnamon, tamarind and black pepper. So juicy and generous yet structured and serious, the beautiful red fruit driven along by well-poised acidity and sturdy tannins." James Suckling

"The 2014 Etna Rosso Riserva Zottorinoto is one of the stars in this exciting group of new releases from Etna. The wine is darkly saturated and powered by intense, territory-driven aromas. Wild cherry and cranberry emerge first with dark tones of crushed rock and camphor ash at the back. The mouthfeel is tight, elegant and very polished. This vintage shows a very tight and compact nature at its core that makes me think it will have a lot to offer as it continues its bottle evolution. Only 1,900 bottles were produced." Robert Parker

    • "Vigna Barbagalli" Rosso Etna DOC 2017
6 Bottles in OWC

“Vigna Barbagalli” Rosso Etna DOC 2017 · 6 Bottles in OWC

The single-varietal, authochtonous Nerello Mascalese from over 100-year-old (rootless) vines starts in a sparkling ruby garnet and impressively follows with a ravishing raspberry aroma, which is followed by fine spicy notes (ginger, allspice, clove). Compact, dense, full-fruited, tannic on the palate, always highly elegant and supple. Traces of salt and flint in the finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Layers of smoke, ash, crushed walnuts and cranberries on the nose. It’s medium-to full-bodied with sleek, tight tannins. Lots of ripe and dried red fruit on the palate with citrus peel and tobacco, too. Precise and tight finish. Lots of old-vine magic here." James Suckling

    • "Sant'Andrea" Carricante Terre Siciliane IGT 2016
6 Bottles in OWC

“Sant’Andrea” Carricante Terre Siciliane IGT 2016 · 6 Bottles in OWC

The Carricante grapes of this extremely rare Etna Bianco come from vine blue resistant (pre-phylloxera) vines of a single vineyard of the Etna East slope from 800m altitude. Only one oak barrel is filled each year, the result is less than 2,000 bottles per vintage.

Rich golden yellow with amber accents. Complex and well structured scent of herbs, yellow fruits and flint. In the mouth an indescribable depth with a salty note, fresh fruit and a mineral persistence. In the final firm and precise, the tension bow is perfectly worked and the long lasting impression is unique! SUPERIORE.DE

"Luminous orange-tinged pink. Perfumed floral nuances complicate strawberry and orange liqueur aromas. Then similar flavors to the aromas in the mouth, characterized by a strong spicy gingery note. Finishes long and dense; this powerful wine is not shy in the flavor or alcohol department (14%) but has a slow-building quality that is very likeable. Made from 100% Nerello Mascalese grown at 700 meters above sea level." Jancis Robinson

"A pure expression of Carricante from pre-Phylloxera vines (with a precious 1,800 bottles made), the 2016 Sant'Andrea displays the depth and structural firmness this Sicilian grape is capable of producing when given time to evolve in the bottle (over 18 months, in this case). Extended skin maceration (with up to ten months of skin contact) adds to the incredible intensity and generous volume of the wine. It opens to an off-gold color and a robust texture that underscores the snappy crunchiness of the grape skins and the fullness of its vinous texture. This grape is not naturally associated with thickness or power, but both are elegantly achieved here. This is a beautifully assembled and contemplated wine that seeks to raise the bar for Etna's versatile Carricante." Robert Parker

    • "Franchetti" Rosso Terre Siciliane IGT 2016
6 Bottles in OWC

“Franchetti” Rosso Terre Siciliane IGT 2016 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Franchetti Rosso is the flagship of Passopisciaro and a breathtakingly perfect wine. The grapes come from the northern vineyards of Mount Etna, 1000 metres above sea level, where the soils are made up of ash and pumice. Franchetti is a mature, exotic wine that surrounds the palate with dark fruits. Refined tannins support the fruit, while an intense inner sweetness lends elegance and finesse. A thoroughly outstanding drop. SUPERIORE.DE

"Opulent balsamic nose of blackberries and herbs; powerful and racy on the palate, with plenty of fullness; ends in a hearty-elegant finish." Vinum

"Powerful, luminous ruby with violet shimmer. Multilayered and full-bodied, ripe berry fruit, with hints of blueberry, bromide and redcurrant, plus many spicy notes, pepper and cardamom. Firm, gripping, densely woven tannin that lasts long, firm pressure in the finale." Falstaff

"A 60-40 blend of Petit Verdot and Cesanese d'Affile, the 2016 Franchetti shows a raw, determined character with dark fruit and prune aromas that emerge roaring from the bouquet. This is a loud, large-scale wine that wraps heavily over the palate with enduring waves of condensed black fruit, smoke, tar and cigar box. The wine is boldly extracted, almost to a fault, but it's also delightfully opulent and enriched. Saying this wine has bold character would be a gross understatement. It ages in new French barrique for eight months followed by a ten-months' resting period in cement vats. Only 3,900 bottles were made." Robert Parker

"Fully saturated, impenetrable inky-ruby color. Smells very concentrated but offers pristine herbal and mineral nuances to the ripe red and black fruit aromas and flavors. Much more refined in the mouth than the powerful nose indicates, with lively acidity nicely extending flavors similar to the aromas on the long rich and very dense finish. A marvelous wine that is both rich and concentrated and yet light on its feet. Finishes with an enticing, spicy juicy note." Vinous
