“Samas” Bianco Isola dei Nuraghi IGT 2022
Wonderful, energetic Sardinian cuvée of Vermentino and Chardonnay with great freshness and dynamism. Floral nuances, apple, pineapple, pear and a light mint flavour pamper the senses. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright straw yellow in colour. Inviting aroma of exotic fruits, elderberry and rose petals. Precise fruit on the palate, moderate acidity with a fresh, juicy flavour and a medium finish." Falstaff
"On the nose, white almonds and fennel with green apple slices and stony minerality. Bone-dry and crisp on the palate with good weight. Some blanched almonds and stone fruit on the medium-long finish." James Suckling
"The 2022 Samas is spicy, with a whiff of crushed chalk that gives way to lime-tinged green apples and ginger. This is silky smooth yet racy in style. A brilliant acidity enlivens its tart orchard fruits and mineral tones. The 2022 Samas finishes with medium-length and full of zesty tension. A citrusy concentration lingers on." Vinous

“Barrua” Isola dei Nuraghi IGT 2019
A great, beautiful and evolving wine, expansive and enveloping on the nose, with plant and vanilla notes on the palate, long and with a fine texture. A wine that is in no way inferior to the great international vintages, yet retains its Sardinian originality. SUPERIORE.DE
"An elegant, medium to full-bodied red wine with a dark blend of blackcurrant and black plum flavours that are fresh and concentrated. With subtle details of star anise, espresso, iron, violets and smoke snaking through the fruit like a fragrant rope, with plastic tannins firming up the finish." Wine Spectator
"Structured and concentrated with dark berries, dark cherries, dried herbs, bark and some cloves. Medium to full body with fine, firm tannins. Serious, multi-layered and a bitter chocolate funnelled finish with excellent length. Best after 2024." James Suckling
"Intense is the word, as the 2019 Barrua unfolds with a smoky burst of ashen stones and exotic spices that blow off to reveal depths of plum sauce and sage complemented by talc. Silky and polished, this excels with its cooling acidity and savory mineral tones that embellish its core of rich wild berries. Sweet tannins frame the finale, as the 2019 finishes long and spicy with potent balsamic-tinged black fruits and tangerine hints." Vinous

“Montessu” Isola dei Nuraghi IGT 2020 · MAGNUM
Seductive cuvée of Carignano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Dark berries on the nose, full and rich on the palate with beautiful spice, rounded tannins and good length. SUPERIORE.DE
"The nose of this wine is earthy and reminiscent of cured meat, potting soil, tree bark and tobacco leaves, with a hint of fresh cranberries. On the palate, fruity notes of cherries, blackberries and cranberries emerge alongside the earthy game flavour. The angular tannins keep everything in its place." Wine Enthusiast
"A medium to full-bodied red wine, with hints of sweet smoke and fig cake underlining the flavours of blackberry coulis and black plum reduction, dried thyme and tea leaf, singed orange peel and ground aniseed. Balanced and slightly juicy, with fine tannins that firm up the finish." Wine Spectator
"Aromatic nose of cherries, redcurrants, some plums, dried thyme and undergrowth. Medium body with fine tannins. Velvety and multi-layered with a flattering texture. Well balanced with a concentrated finish and excellent length." James Suckling
"The 2020 Montessu is a total pleasure. Sweet violets, lavender and cloves accentuate a burst of black raspberries on the nose. This is silky and suave, with masses of ripe red and black fruits that flow across a core of brisk acidity. The 2020 maintains fabulous balance while finishing long and potent yet fresh with a hint of steeped plums that don't quit. What a beauty." Vinous

When well-known winegrowers, wineries and consultants in the wine industry participate in a joint venture with their own capital, this does not necessarily mean that this form of cooperation was chosen primarily to sell wines at high prices worldwide. The foundation of the Cantina Agricola Punica, located in Sulcis, southwest Sardinia, was based on a completely different idea. Fascinated by the Mediterranean island more than 200 kilometres from the Italian mainland and its autochthonous grape varieties, Giacomo Tachis, who died in 2016, had the dream of pressing an unmistakable Carignano as early as the mid-1980s, when he took up his advisory activity in Sardinia. The legendary oenologist, father of many so-called Supertoscans such as Solaia and Tignanello, had in mind a team of experts with experience and competence as well as the necessary pioneering spirit to achieve this ambitious goal. For almost 15 years Tachis was not only something like the soul of the company, but also, alongside Sebastiano Rosa, the wineries Santadi (Sardinia) and San Guido (Tuscany) as well as the Santadi president Antonello Pilloni, co-owner of the magnificent Sardinian wine house.
The grapes of Cantina Agricola Punica grow in plots with sandy clay soils. Some of the fruit in old vineyards even comes from real root vines from the time before the phylloxera plague. The Carignano grape clearly plays the most important role in the grape portfolio. In addition to this, international varieties such as Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay also grow in the vineyards. The yields per hectare in the year 2002 of Rosa & Co. and located not far from the Cantina Santadi, Barrua and Narcao are deliberately kept very low. The fruits that reach the cellar are also very strictly selected again by the top-class winemaking team.
Sebastiano Rosa, oenologist and cellar master of Santadi and San Guido, had made a name for himself especially as director of the Tenuta San Guido. For a long time he had been striving to produce real Sulcis wines. Under the direction of Rosa and in harmony with the ideas of Tachi, the following works are created' two Carignano-based blended red wines and, for some years now, a white wine made mainly from Vermentino. The red drops of the Cantina Agricola Punica have quickly won regular places on the wine lists of top Italian restaurants. The Barrua was published in 2005 by the then still appearing magazine "All about wine" as the new discovery of the year. With Montessu two years later, a so-called second wine was born, which with its excellent price-quality ratio offers a characterful entry into the world of Sardinian wines. SUPERIORE.DE
