    • Arneis Roero DOCG 2019

      Arneis Roero DOCG 2019

Straw yellow, charming, not too superficial floral nose, fresh and clean taste with hints of peach and banana, complex, long and round. SUPERIORE.DE

"Vietti's 2019 Roero Arneis is fresh, zesty and upfront. This delightfully informal white wine lays it all out there, and there's a lot to love. The Arneis grape reveals glossy, polished aromas in which citrus and peach are offset by a touch of squeaky natural rubber. I happen to love those aromas. Vietti offers a very clean and authentic expression of the variety. If you're new to Arneis, this is a good place to start." Robert Parker

    • "Tre Vigne" Barbera d'Alba DOC 2018

“Tre Vigne” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2018

The grapes for Barbera d'Alba Tre Vigne, which is impressive every year, come mainly from vineyards in Castiglione Falletto, with a small part of the fruit coming from Ravera. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, leather, liquorice, spices and menthol are presented here in an intoxicating, exotically ripe drop that is a pleasure to drink even when young. SUPERIORE.DE

"This is the most accessible of the five expressions of Barbera (from both Alba and Asti) made by Vietti. The 2018 Barbera d'Alba Tre Vigne opens to dark cherry and blackberry with good textural richness at the back. There is a lot of fruit fiber and support here to counter the abundant blackberry and cherry flavors that are so characteristic of this grape." Robert Parker

Perbacco shows in the fresh bouquet first lightly leafy notes, then a lot of cherry. On the palate beautifully round, lots of ripe fruit, cherries and red berries, underlaid with fine-grained tannin, long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"A wine with a diehard fan club, the Vietti 2017 Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco drinks like a young Barolo but costs a fraction of the price. I really need to say little more because that accurately sums up the vast appeal of this classic and versatile Nebbiolo. The bouquet is expressive and fresh with wild berries, blue flowers, spice and tobacco. Besides a bit more color concentration that you might notice in the wine's appearance, Perbacco magically shows no sign of the hot vintage." Robert Parker

“La Crena” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2017

Barbera d'Asti Superiore Nizza La Crena has a fragrance of ripe red fruits, hay and pastry, the rich taste with a wonderful warmth lingers long with fine cocoa tones. SUPERIORE.DE

"A ripe, concentrated version, this offers saturated flavors of blackberry, black cherry and plum, with hints of chocolate and spice. Vibrant and juicy, offsetting the firm structure." Wine Spectator

"This is a very impressive nose indeed for a Barbera, dripping in smoke, dried lavender, licorice, elderberries and herbal liqueur. Despite the exuberant initial impression, the palate is polished and suave, casting a web of neatly arranged tannins amidst plush dark fruit." James Suckling

"The 2017 Barbera d'Asti La Crena opens to all the sunshine, exuberance and richness that come with wines from this hot vintage. Barbera is one of the few grapes in Italy's repertoire of indigenous varieties that welcomes the scorching summer heat ("bring it on," it beckons). It maintains its acidity and tart berry profile despite the soaring temperatures. This is more evident with fruit from the Asti area. This wine offers textual weight all backed by tangy freshness. La Crena is partially made with fruit from old vines, planted some 90 years ago." Robert Parker

“Vigna Scarrone” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2017

Barbera d'Alba Scarrone from the vineyard of the same name is a beautifully complex, rich Barbera Cru. Aromas of dark fragrant fruits, spices, liquorice and minerals. Opulent and perfectly balanced, silky tannins, sweet floral notes in the long dry aftertaste. SUPERIORE.DE

"Licorice, burnt blackberries, tea leaves and dried spices are in play. Full body. Lightly grainy tannins bring structure and gravitas to the mix." James Suckling

"The 2017 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Scarrone is a rich, powerful wine. Sweet tobacco, cedar, licorice and wild red cherry add striking aromatic nuance. Once an inky, dark wine, Scarrone has become more refined in recent years, which also means it is a bit less immediate, but will be more nuanced in time. There is certainly plenty to look forward to here." Vinous

"Though rich and fruity, this red is also dense and muscular, featuring violet, blackberry and black plum flavors enmeshed with the thick texture. Touches of spice and graphite add depth as this cruises to a lingering finish. Shows fine balance and length." Wine Spectator

"The Vietti 2017 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Scarrone is defined by a spot of sweetness backed by generous layers of dried blackberry, plum and black cherry. This vintage offers a generous level of intensity that is soft and almost succulent in character. There is so much primary fruit in this wine, but the complexity and the varietal character of the grape remain beautifully intact nonetheless." Robert Parker

    • Barolo "Castiglione" DOCG 2014

      Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2014

Barolo Castiglione is the cheapest of the five Barolo of the house and demonstrates impressively the high level of Viettis. He begins his great appearance with dense aromas of dried cherries, plums and tar and then adds notes of white flowers and spices. Mineral shades and memories of smoked meat follow. On the palate just as complex and multi-layered, the silky tannins have a good grip. Already in his younger years he possesses a fine fruit and finesse, which identifies him as one of the outstanding representatives of the appellation. SUPERIORE.DE

"An array of berries and cherries with a floral sheen. Bright and attractive. The palate has a layer more than most, offering sour cherries and tangy, cherry-pip flavors in a supple, balanced style." James Suckling

"This is a terrific and flexible expression of Nebbiolo that can adopt to almost any dinner party setting. The 2014 Barolo Castiglione was designed for people who want to enjoy Barolo in an easy and direct manner. This Barolo is offered at higher production numbers, although this vintage is comparatively smaller. On average they make anywhere from 44,000 to 53,000 bottles, but in 2014 only 35,000 bottles were produced. The bouquet here is generous and broad with dark fruit, spice and tar. You even get a touch of citrus or dried orange peel. The mouthfeel is a bit thinner and more delicate in this vintage. Yet the tannins leave a firm footprint and promise a good aging future ahead." Robert Parker

"The 2014 Barolo Castiglione is superb. Nuanced, layered and sculpted in the glass, the Castiglione is a wine of real precision and class. In 2014, the Castiglione is medium in body and gracious, with perhaps a bit less stuffing than in some previous editions, but tons of persistence. Hints of lavender, rose petal and red berry fruit lead into the crystalline, translucent finish. Time in the glass brings out this gorgeous Barolo's more refined side. Once again, the Castiglione is a real overachiever. The Castiglione is built on a core of Ravera, with a complement of fruit from other sites that are often vineyard-designated by other producers." Barolo Castiglione is the cheapest of the five Barolo of the house and demonstrates impressively the high level of Vietti. Already in his younger years he possesses a fine fruit and finesse, which identifies him as one of the outstanding representatives of the appellation. SUPERIORE.DE

"Vietti's 2015 Barolo Castiglione is soft, silky and pliant, all qualities that make it a good choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. Floral and nicely lifted, the 2015 is very pretty, if not quite the overachiever it can be. I expect the 2015 will be even more expressive once the tannins soften a bit further. In this tasting, the Castiglione stands out for its freshness and energy. Time in the glass brings out an extra layer of textural breadth and resonance that is not immediately apparent." Vinous

"Plenty of perfume here with abundant roses and violets, as well as spice-dusted red cherries and hints of orange rind. The palate has depth and density with a sense of power and detail to the tannins. Long, dense and fresh." James Suckling

"The 2015 Barolo Castiglione is a soft and elegant expression with marked freshness and delineated fruit. Indeed, Luca Currado maintains that 2015 was not a hot vintage per se, and any jammy notes that might appear in the vintage may have to do with an overzealous approach to leaf pulling during the summer season. Old habits die hard, he says, and leaving the leaves intact contributes to the color stabilization of the wine and the successful management of its acidity. From an analytical point of view, this wine does flaunt that much-needed inner crispness. It adds focus and sharpness to the layers of dark, succulent fruit that appear on first nose." Robert Parker

    • "Scarrone Vigna Vecchia" Barbera d'Alba DOC 2017

“Scarrone Vigna Vecchia” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2017

Complex aroma with notes of wild berries, chocolate and mint, on the palate a lot of power, fruit and fullness, spicy and opulent final. A Barbera that can and should mature ... But take care, because the minimal edition of this exquisite extract from almost 1.4 hectares of vineyards is usually sold out in no time. SUPERIORE.DE

"Planted in 1918, Vietti's oldest plot of Barbera is located in the Scarrone cru, overlooking its underground cellars in Castiglione Falletto. The vines naturally yield a low 1kg per plant. Remarkably concentrated, fleshy fruit is enveloped in soft, luxurious tannins. Juicy through the core with hints of fennel and peppermint, it offers black currants, black cherry and plum flavours. This could do with an additional year in bottle but will hold brilliantly for another decade." Decanter

"The 2017 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Vecchia Scarrone is positively gorgeous. Savory, nuanced and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2017 possesses tremendous complexity and character - the brutally hot year notwithstanding. It is also very different from the straight Scarrone Barbera, which has not always been the case of late. I would prefer to cellar the 2017 for at least a few years." Vinous

"Made with precious old vines, some of which have reached the 100-year mark, the Vietti 2017 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Vecchia Scarrone is a deep, dark and luscious red wine. It tops the charts in terms of color intensity and fruit heft. The concentration and density of the wine is considerable; however, the mouthfeel never feels heavy or overdone. Yes, this is a dark and brooding Barbera, but that fresh acidity gives the wine a little skip and jump in its proverbial footsteps. That condensed fruit is followed by rusty nail, crushed stone and black licorice." Robert Parker

    • Barolo "Castiglione" DOCG 2016

      Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2016

Barolo Castiglione is the cheapest of the five Barolo of the house and impressively demonstrates the high level of Vieti. It begins its grand entrance with dense aromas of dried cherries, plums and tar and then adds notes of white flowers and spices. This is followed by mineral shades and memories of smoked meat. On the palate, the tannins are equally complex and multi-layered, with a good grip on the silky tannins. Already at a younger age, it has a fine fruit and finesse that identifies it as one of the outstanding representatives of the appellation. SUPERIORE.DE

"While the exact blend of parcels varies from year to year, the backbone of Castiglione always comes from the Ravera cru of Novello. It has a dark and brooding character and takes time to open up. Winter mint, cedar and an intriguing earthiness offset nuances of red cherry and violets as they slowly emerge. Firm, vertical tannins shore up the palate but remain effortlessly sophisticated in this powerful and dense Barolo." Decanter

"The 2016 Barolo Castiglione is a dazzling wine that will show readers just how compelling this vintage is, even among entry-level wines from top producers. Rich, ample and explosive, the 2016 possesses tremendous richness and resonance from the very first taste. Bright red cherry and red plum fruit, wild flowers, mint, blood orange and spice build as this sumptuous, dramatic Barolo shows all it's got. As always, the Castiglione is built on a core of fruit from Ravera. In 2016, the Castiglione benefits from the inclusion of several new sites, including Ginestra, Mosconi, Bricco Ravera (in Monforte), Le Coste, Costabelle, Meriame, Briccolina and Codana. All I can say is: What a wine!" Vinous

"The Vietti 2016 Barolo Castiglione opens to a grounded and authentic profile with hints of mint, balsam herb and tilled earth. The primary fruit is neatly folded into all those other components, and all received equal billing when the final results are counted. The entry-level Castiglione is always the most accessible of Vietti's Baroli, but this vintage shows a heightened level of intensity, complexity and freshness. Those silky tannins are followed by beautiful menthol brightness. This is a real charmer." Robert Parker

    About the winemakers

    Piedmont
    Vietti

In medieval Castiglione Falletto, the Vietti family has been producing wines for four generations. The estate was founded at the end of the 19th century by Carlo Vietti and sold in 2016 to the Krause family (USA), which is already owned by the Barolo caller Enrico Serafino. The first wines were marketed in 1919 by Vietti's son Mario. The winery can pride itself on being the only producer in the Langhe to have the very best vineyards, such as Rocche and Villero, Brunate and Lazzarito. The vineyards were acquired by Alfredo Currado in the sixties. As one of the first oenologists in Piedmont, the winemaker, who died in 2010, had started to prepare single vineyard wines in the very place where traditional rules of conduct almost always prescribed Barolo and Barbaresco cuvées.

After Mario Cordero joined the company in 1960 and the vineyard work was handed over to Alfredos son Luca Currado, the actual triumph of the winery began. The traditional methods of winemaking have been combined with the use of modern technology, intelligent work in the vineyard and, above all, strict grape selection. On this basis, the Vietti Winery meticulously and meticulously produces extraordinarily characteristic, fruity wines with a firm body and great finesse.

Among the grape varieties, it is not only the Nebbiolo that stands out for the Barolos pressed from a balanced mixture of old and new style. The Barbera plants, which are also planted in the best locations and are just as long-lived, are also regularly found among the best wines in the house. Ob "Tre Vigne" or "Scarrone" - Besides the great Barolo wines, Luca Currados Barberas also set standards in their respective price ranges. But also Dolcetto and the white varieties Arneis and Moscato do not lag behind the high demands of the wine world. The meanwhile famous white grape Arneis owes it by the way not least to Alfredo Currado that she enjoys her present-day reputation and has not fallen into oblivion. SUPERIORE.DE

"Although winemaker at the heart of the Langhe and master of a whole range of Nebbiolo vineyards in classic locations, Luca Currado has always cultivated the Barbera as one of his trademarks."Vinum

"'Nothing at Vietti will change, if only for the better,' said Luca Currado, oenologist and chief executive of Vietti. Both he and Mario Cordero, director of marketing and sales, will stay in their posts. 'Our family has the utmost respect for what they and their families have built over five generations and do not plan to change anything,' said new owner Kyle Krause, who emphasised his Italian-American roots and love for Barolo wines."Decanter

"Vietti's 2015 Barolos are good examples of the strengths and weaknesses of the vintage as a whole. All of the wines are fresh and medium in body, with good energy and plenty of drive. At the same time, the differences between the vineyard are not quite as marked as they are in truly outstanding years. Even so, the 2015s here are brilliant. I won't be surprised if they show even better with a few more years in bottle, as they are among the most reticent 2015s I tasted." Vinous
