Brachetto d’Acqui DOCG 2023 vivace
An elementary component of Piedmontese drinking culture and probably one of the most underrated wines in Italy with DOCG status: the clearly sparkling Brachetto d'Acqui is light ruby red in colour (with cherry-red foam). The bouquet is very aromatic with notes of nutmeg, rose and violet. The flavour is extremely elegant, reminiscent of strawberries, round and finely balanced between mild sweetness and fruity, very refreshing astringency. SUPERIORE.DE

“Montebruna” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2020
Fantastic Barbera from a world-famous vineyard, complex aromas of dark red, plump, juicy cherries, the finest spices and black forest berries on the nose. In the mouth, polished, dense, enormous amounts of glycerine and sweetish fruit, present but silky tannins, finely enveloped by the fruit, rich in finesse, persistent, first-class acidity. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich garnet red in the glass. The nose is characterised by hazelnut and nougat, with a hint of mint, dark berry fruit and dried cherries also appear with air. Emphatically fruity on the palate, rich cherry fruit, finely chiselled acidity that gives it tension and freshness. Youthful with great ageing potential. Mature green notes. Alcohol is excellently integrated, appears slender, elegant and silky. Typical, pleasant bitter note on the long finish." Vinum
"Soft and imbued with cherry, blackberry and earthy flavours, this red wine is fleshy from start to finish. Almond and spice accents are evident on the finish, along with light tannins." Wine Spectator
"The 2020 Barbera d'Asti Montebruna is a powerful and rich red wine with notes of ripe berries, roasted spices, cinnamon and grilled Mediterranean herbs. Despite its strength and vigour, the mouthfeel is supported by a fresh acidity and a strong alcohol content of 15%." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of cherry chocolate, dark liquorice, hints of bark and damp earth. Full-bodied with a velvety, supple tannin structure and a slightly chalky texture on the finish. Juicy and full of flavour." James Suckling
"The Barbera d'Asti Montebruna 2020 is dark and lush from the start. Spices, leather, tobacco, menthol, dried flowers and mocha all come together as this intense, lush Asti Barbera shows its considerable charm. In 2021, the Montebruna is quite dense and brooding, but all elements are impeccably balanced." Vinous
"This wine opens with aromas of fresh and macerated black cherries that transition to wild flowers, savoury spices and wild herbs. The palate is concentrated with lush ripe red and blackberries, cola and sweet spices. The wine is round and fleshy and is balanced by the natural acidity of the Barbera itself." Wine Enthusiast

"Aromas of baked plum, baking spice and mocha emerge from the glass. The bold, full-bodied palate offers cherry marinated in spirits, white pepper and cocoa alongside smooth tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"Like all the Barberas from Braida in this flight, the alcohol content is recorded at a hefty 15.5% here, but the 2018 Barbera d'Asti Bricco della Bigotta shows a lot more ripeness, sweetness and rich concentration across the board. This expression is just heavier and denser. You sink your teeth into this red wine. There is oak spice and toasted cinnamon, and the wine carries extra fruit weight." Wine Advocate

“Bricco dell’Uccellone” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2018 · Double MAGNUM in OWC
With tireless dedication, the Bologna family fulfils the legacy of Giacomo Bologna, who is rightly called the father of modern Barbera d'Asti. The historic jewel of the house is the Bricco dell'Uccellone: Dense and complex on the nose, tannic and persistent on the palate, with excellent structure and a beautiful acidity and flavour persistence. SUPERIORE.DE
"This historic wine put Barbera on the world wine map. It offers the richness and concentration of the Bricco della Bigotta, with the lighted style of the more immediate Montebruna. The character of the Braida 2018 Barbera d'Asti Bricco dell'Uccellone is more sophisticated and complex, with dark blackberry, toasted nutmeg and Spanish cedar. Wait for it, there's that pop of acidity on the close." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of mature black-skinned berries, cassis, cedar and toasted hazelnut lead the way. The concentrated, savory palate doles out blackberry jam, mocha, licorice and clove alongside fine-grained tannins. Thanks to the wine's freshness and fruit, the alcohol is well integrated." Wine Enthusiast

Bricco della Bigotta has an aroma of cherries, cinnamon, black pepper and a hint of tobacco. Great finesse and a harmonious balance between acidity and alcohol on the palate. Long finish with character and class. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, intense ruby red colour. Ripe nose of red fruits, cherry, plum, followed by spicy notes of liquorice and vanilla, with a hint of wood. On the palate it is rich, round and reminiscent of ripe fruit and undergrowth, very long finish." Falstaff
"A rich and intense Barbera that offers dark plums, blackberries, ground spices and chocolate. Structured and dense with chalky tannins and juicy acidity. Long lasting finish." James Suckling
"Dense and concentrated aromas of black plum jam, cloves, vanilla and violets pour from the glass from the start. Blackberry and black cherry compote fill the palate, while sweet and savoury spices emerge, giving way to dried violets, mocha and dark earthy notes. The wine finishes with elegant tannins and tangy, fresh Barbera acidity." Wine Enthusiast
"A bright, concentrated red with aromas and flavours of plum, fruitcake, leather, tar and oak spices. Dense, with serious tension that defines the long aftertaste. Intense and complex." Wine Spectator
"The 2019 Barbera d'Asti Bricco della Bigotta is a wild, exotic wine. Super-ripe dark cherry, kirsch, new leather, menthol, blood orange and sweet oak add loads of nuance and complexity to this flamboyant Barbera. The Bigotta is rich and layered, with great depth, another winner in this range from Braida. Bright acids and floral notes round off the finish." Vinous

“Bricco dell’Uccellone” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2020 · 6 bottles in OWC
With tireless dedication, the Bologna family fulfils the legacy of Giacomo Bologna, who is rightly called the father of modern Barbera d'Asti. The historic jewel of the house is the Bricco dell'Uccellone: dense and complex on the nose, with blackberry jam, mocha, liquorice and cloves in the drink. Its fine-grained tannins and excellent structure carry it with beautiful fruit and acid wire into a long-lasting finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Braida 2020 Barbera d'Asti Bricco dell'Uccellone is one of the bottles that made Italian wine history. It shows its dark and savoury side with ripe cherries, baked plums, spices, tarry smoke and campfire embers. With time, these flavours soften and reorganise, reminiscent of espresso beans or baking chocolate. The wine is very concentrated and fruit-driven." Wine Advocate
"A supple red wine with aromas of plums, blueberries, clay and toasted oak. It shows assertive tannins on the finish, but has plenty of fruit and the long finish shows its future potential." Wine Spectator
"Notes of crushed dark berries, chocolate, cured meat and dark earth. Medium- to full-bodied, juicy and fresh with tension and energy to the dark fruit. Vivid acidity. Chalky and intense finish. Very attractive." James Suckling
"This historic Barbera opens with blackberry compote, spiced black plums, cedar and sweet spices. The opulent palate shows notes of preserved cherries, anise, cloves and cocoa, with polished and elegant tannins. The wine finishes with a lively acidity that keeps this big, bold and beautiful wine fresh with each glass." Wine Enthusiast

The Bologna family has been successfully producing wine in Monferrato for about half a century. And her winery Braida has always been one of the most outstanding wineries in Piedmont. With the siblings Raffaella and Giuseppe Bologna, the third generation has taken over the management of the family business. In their work, the two oenologists combine modern knowledge with tradition. In the 1980s, her father Giacomo Bologna had broken new ground in dealing with the Barbera grape by daring for the first time to mature in barriques and giving the red variety the status of a noble vine. The name of the winery goes back to the grandfather of the current owners, Giuseppe Bologna, who used to nickname himself "Bologna" on village squares during ball games. "Braida" for the first time.
The production of the world-famous winery is mainly focused on Barbera, the most widespread grape variety in Piedmont. The winery also sees itself as a pioneer of the Barbera d'Asti. On the vineyards of the municipality of Rocchetta Tanaro the grapes for the flagship of the Braida winery and probably the most famous Barbera of all - the "Bricco dell'uccellones". In addition there are vines in Costigliole d'Asti and Castelnuovo Calcea as well as in the higher vineyards of Mango d'Alba and Trezzo Tinella. Raffaella and Giuseppe, in addition to the Barbera grape, are also dedicated to other indigenous grape varieties such as Moscato, Brachetto and Grignolino. Merlot, Pinot Nero and Cabernet Sauvignon also grow in the estate's own vineyards. The soils consist mostly of clay, lime and sand. The soil is usually loose to medium hard.
Uncompromising pursuit of quality, passion for the terroir, innovation and sustainability are the ingredients of Braida's success. The worldwide great recognition can be read not only in the cult wine "Bricco dell'uccellones"but also in the Barbera classic "Montebruna" and in "Bricco della Bigotta". All three plants have been alternated by the wine guide Gambero Rossoin the past years with "Three glasses" excellent. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Barberas produced have always been so powerful, multi-layered and deep that they are the perfect expression of the modern interpretation of this vine."Gambero Rosso
