"Campo San Giorgio" Rosso Conero Riserva DOCG 2016

The Montepulciano vines for this powerful and terroir-rich Montepulciano grow on the Campo San Giorgio vineyard at an altitude of about 150 m on deep, chalky clay soils. The wine is unfiltered and unfined and matures for 12 months in small and large wooden barrels. The label represents the historic design of the Rosso Conero of the 1970s and the impressive result is the calling card of a long family tradition and expertise in viticulture.

Deep dark ruby red with violet and garnet reflections. Very expressive on the nose with a fruity style of cherry, plum, liquorice and herbal spice. Fresh and firm on the palate, the delicate extract sweetness gives it harmony and the silky tannins lead into a warm, very long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Aromas of blackberries, black peppercorns, rosemary, cloves and smoked meat. It's medium-to full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Chewy and flavorful, with a savory, saline and spiced finish. Lingering wild-herb notes. Delicious." James Suckling

"Dark, dusty and deeply alluring, the 2016 Conero Riserva Campo San Giorgio opens with a bouquet of crushed violets, autumnal spices, black cherries and nuances of fresh mint. This coasts across the palate with the silkiest of textures, which are neatly balanced by sour red berries, a twang of zesty citrus and motivating acidity. Smoky mineral tones and hints of tobacco mix with grippy tannins and a resonating note of hard red candies. The Campo San Giorgio is persistently structured and packed full of potential. This single-vineyard Montepulciano really shows what is possible from the variety, from the right location, in the right hands." Vinous

"The Umani Ronchi 2016 Conero Riserva Campo San Giorgio is the estate's headline wine and a pure expression of the Montepulciano grape that underlines purity, length and the staying power of the variety. This Riserva opens to tart cherry, cassis, spice, licorice and tar, offering a traditional and classic read of the Conero appellation in the Marche region that hangs over the blueness of the Adriatic Sea. This wine is polished and toned with bright berry flavors that segue to tar, licorice and grilled herb. It's perfect for a brasato alla marchigiana made with rolled up slices of braised beef and stuffed with prosciutto and pancetta." Robert Parker
