    • "Pelago" Marche Rosso IGT 2015

      “Pelago” Marche Rosso IGT 2015

The Pelago in Riserva quality made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Montepulciano and small parts of Merlot shows a ravishing scent of raspberries and a fresh, juicy and very long lasting taste. SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich garnet red. In the nose elegant tones of cassis and ripe forest fruits, noble spicy tones, red peppers, in the aftertaste after light leather. Opens with a juicy drink on the palate, very well integrated acidity, hearty, polished tannin, with a lot of emphasis, harmonious finish." Falstaff

"Very polished and pretty red with intense berry, plum and oak character, yet it pulls it off at the finish. Medium body. Currant and blackberry aftertaste." James Suckling

"The 2015 Umani Ronchi Pelago lifts from the glass with a dramatic display, mixing crushed cherry and blueberries with sweet tobacco, sage, violets, hints of cinnamon and white smoke. On the palate, rich contours are offset by sour berries with brisk acids and penetrating mineral tones, as grippy tannins begin to clench the senses toward the close. The finish is long and structured, resonating on blue fruits with an air of purple florals. This blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Montepulciano and 10% Merlot is gorgeous today, even with its youthfully tannic clout, yet I suspect that a few years of cellaring will reveal something very special." The label represents the historic design of the Rosso Conero de 1970s and the impressive result is the calling card of a long family tradition and expertise in winemaking.

    About the winemakersUmani RonchiMarche
    Umani Ronchi

The Bernetti family, with its wine company Umani Ronchi, has acquired an excellent reputation as one of the leading wine producers in the Marche region, far beyond the borders of the region and the country. Today the wine house, located in Osimo in the province of Ancona and represented by a branch in Castelbellino, is managed by Massimo Bernetti and his son Michele. In addition to the approximately 200 hectares of land in the Marche between the Apennines and the Adriatic coast, the successful winegrower duo also owns a further 30 hectares of vineyards in Abruzzo. It is the declared aim of the estate owners in both wine regions to bring out the specific terroirs as well as the local grape varieties Montepulciano and Verdicchio with their typical characteristics convincingly.

In the beginning the winery was a typical farm. The company, founded by Gino Umani Ronchi and taken over a few years later by the couple Massimo Bernetti and Annalisa Bianchi, did not become a pure producer of fine wines until 1968. But the family had also been active in the wine business in the previous ten years. After Massimo had taken over management in the 1970s - a time of operational growth and numerous investments - Michele took over the management in the 1990s. For a long time the wine house cooperated with the world-famous oenologist Giacomo Tachis, creator of the legendary wines Sassicaia and Tignanello, before he was replaced by Giuseppe Caviola from Piedmont in 2002 in his capacity as consultant.

In the Marche, Umani Ronchi has very beautiful vineyards in the renowned production areas of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico and Rosso Conero. The vineyards are under the care of the agronomist Luigi Piersanti and are partly cultivated according to organic principles. The vineyards in the Esino valley extend over the municipalities of Cupramontana, Montecarotto, Maiolati Spontini and San Paolo di Jesi or are located in the hinterland of Monte Conero. Working in the vineyard, Umani Ronchi's team benefits from the results of research carried out by scientific institutions such as the University of Ancona into the most modern agricultural production conditions.

Most of the drops from the large and reliable range come from exposed individual layers. Umani Ronchi's precise and well-defined wine style combines modern and classic elements, respecting the tradition and typicality of the local grape varieties. What goes into the bottles is elegant and full of finesse, the fruit is never overemphasised. SUPERIORE.DE

"The winery of the Bernetti family has been internationally present for many years. However, their technically perfect bottlings, blessed with extraordinary temperament and depth, do not bend to the markets, but rather point them in the right direction."Gambero Rosso
