Nebbiolo Inferno Valtellina Superiore DOCG 2020
The Nebbiolo grapes for the Inferno Superiore come from the Calvario, Sopragironi, Sottogironi and Ca Rossa subzones. They grow there in southern exposure on terraced slopes on poor, sandy soils. Rich, bright carmine red. Interesting aroma spectrum of spices, wild berries, liquorice and mint. Very harmonious on the palate, the tannin very well integrated and the Nebbiolo fruit and acid component present until the respectable finish. SUPERIORE.DE

“Mazér” Valtellina Superiore DOCG 2019
"Mazér" is a Valtellina dialect word meaning distinguished, an apt description for the character of this wine. It is a Valtellina Superiore and the quintessence of Nino Negri's experience in making the Chiavennasca grape (Nebbiolo) since 1897. A small part of the Nebbiolo grapes is dried for a few days - concentrating the juice of the grapes - and then mixed with the rest of the grape mass.
Pure bouquet of red fruits, underlaid with a hint of tobacco, hints of mineral notes on the palate, plus fine tannins, perfectly integrated into an appealing acid structure. A very authentic, classic and full-bodied wine with alpine character. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2019 Valtellina Superiore Mazer is a pretty big wine. Ample in feel and quite rustic, the 2019 packs plenty of punch in its deceptively medium-bodied frame. A blast of red cherry, iron, herbs, licorice and mint adds to an impression of wildness and gravitas. This potent, super-ripe Valtellina has a ton to offer." Vinous

Nebbiolo Bianco Alpi Retiche IGT 2022
The geological origins of the soil date back to the time when African and European plates collided, creating the Alps. The diversity of the terroir lends minerality and elegance to this white-pressed Nebbiolo rarity. straw yellow with golden reflections. Lush bouquet of green apple, citrus fruits, honey and toasted bread. Dry and fresh on the palate, this unusual white provides a lot of drinking pleasure, rounded off by a fine minerality in the complex finish. Be sure to aerate! SUPERIORE.DE

“Le Tense” Sassella Valtellina Superiore DOCG 2020
"Le Tense" is made from grapes that come exclusively from the Sassella DOCG subzone. During the Swiss rule (1512 - 1797), the best vineyards were "secured" by armed guards and this is how it got its name. They thus became probably the most famous vineyards of the appellation. The selection of the vines produces a wine that expresses the character of the soil: ancient stones and rocks that represent the terroir of Sassella. Nebbiolo from Sassella produces elegant aromas and delicate, harmonious flavours that are typical of Valtellina's alpine reds.
Silky and polished with wild berries, blueberries, bitter almond, crushed rock, ash and mild spice. It has all those ethereal and finely balanced flavours of a Valtellina nebbiolo, but they are presented in a slightly more direct and approachable way. The firm tannins are enveloped by a beautiful fruit, and the medium-length finish fades out harmoniously. A beautiful wine from the far north of Lombardy. SUPERIORE.DE

“Carlo Negri” Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG 2019
The grapes for Carluccio "Carlo" Negri, named after the winery's authoritative pioneer, come from vineyards in the DOC and DOCG areas of Valtellina on the slopes of the Rhaetian Alps along the right bank of the Adda River. The sfursat, world-famous for the region, is produced by the natural drying of the grapes, favoured by the cool and dry winds from the mountains. In the "fruttaio", the fruit shed, they lose almost 30% of their weight during this process. The result is therefore a unique Nebbiolo: rich and intense, with the typical mineral and fresh character of Alpine wines.
Medium ruby red. Concentrated, complex bouquet with notes of ripe berry fruits, cyclamen and spices like black pepper and cinnamon. Dry on the palate, with beautiful dark primary fruit with firm tannins that are tart when young. Further on, full-bodied, persistent, with a long finish and subtle hints of cloves and liquorice. Harmonious, too, its fresh acidity, which will make it vibrant and exciting, especially after further years of ageing, one of the best wines of the appellation. SUPERIORE.DE
"A energetic Valtellina with cherry and floral aromas and flavors that are highlighted with hints of vanilla and bitter citrus. Full-bodied with round tannins that are soft and velvety and plenty of ripe fruit that remains fresh, focused and intense." James Suckling

“Vigna Sassorosso” Grumello Valtellina Superiore DOCG 2019
The "Sassorosso" vineyard is located on a rocky promontory that is separated from the rest of the mountain and has been almost completely eroded by the glacier over the centuries. It is visually distinguished by the unmistakable red colour of the ferruginous inclusions in the rock. The overlying shallow soil layer consists of clay and sand and lies on friable, metamorphic rock into which the roots can penetrate. The unmistakably elegant and mineral character of the terroir is thus particularly strongly expressed in this Nebbiolo.
Bright, transparent ruby red with a fine garnet hue. On the nose, small red fruits such as blackberry, redcurrant, cherry and raspberry complemented by fresh, floral notes of violets and roses. The palate is dense with a very tasty attack, silky tannins and a seemingly endless finish. A wine of great austerity and purity with considerable ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Aromas of cut plum, red liquorice, roasted thyme and hibiscus. Medium-bodied with velvety tannins. Straightforward with real freshness and juicy red fruits." James Suckling
"The 2019 Grumello Sassorosso is a potent wine laced with strong mineral and savory notes that lend nuance as well as energy. Sweet dried cherry, crushed rocks, sage, mint and pipe tobacco open in the bouquet, but the Sassorosso remains a bit stern and unyielding in feel." Vinous
"Spicy at first, with notes of tarry smoke, loamy earth and grilled herbs evolving into a more subtle thread that winds through flavours of plum sauce, cherry reduction, anise and graphite. Long and slightly juicy overall, with a creamy edge to the otherwise chewy tannins that firm up the spicy finish." Wine Spectator

“Vigna Ca' Guicciardi” Inferno Valtellina Superiore DOCG 2019
The vineyard "Ca' Guicciardi" got its name from the farmhouse that lies in its centre. The single vineyard site is characterised by small, very steep valleys. Remarkable rock faces alternate with terraces supported by some of the highest dry stone walls in the Valtellina. The particular colour of the rock, which tends towards a quartz-like white, greatly enhances the power of the sun and results in higher temperatures and more light here than in other parts of the valley.
Vigna Ca' Guicciardi has an intense, bright ruby red colour, pronounced aromas of ripe red fruits with predominant notes of black cherry, currant, spices, with hints of liquorice, cloves and cinnamon in the background. Soft and full in the mouth, without appearing broad and denying its alpine origins. One cannot help but compare it to a complex Burgundy, its round tannins and wonderful depth and length round off the experience in a well-proportioned and highly elegant way. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sweet berries and cherries with lemon and orange peel character. Also watermelon. Medium body. Medium round tannins and a creamy finish. Nice texture and flavours." James Suckling
"This mountain red envelops you from the start with aromas of roasted cherries, savory spice and pressed red flowers. The precise and elegant palate serves macerated raspberries balanced by alpine herbs, crushed stones and elegant tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"An elegant red wine with well-integrated mineral nuances, fresh juiciness and a soft texture as well as aromas of wild strawberries, fine tobacco, iron, orange peel and a hint of red liquorice. The well-seasoned finish tempts you to take another sip." Wine Spectator

“Vigna Fracia” Valgella Valtellina Superiore DOCG 2019
The "Fracia" vineyard has belonged to Nino Negri since it was founded in 1897. It lies at the confluence of several alpine valleys and the vegetation in this area is almost Mediterranean with lavender and rosemary. The result is a wine that is flavoursome and flowery with a characteristic, spicy aroma.
Intense ruby red colour with garnet reflections. Complex aromas of dog rose and violets on the nose, which develop into spicy notes such as rosemary and lavender. Dense, rich and with well-structured tannins on the palate. The well-balanced and fresh acidity leads to a long, very flavoursome finish. An alpine red that is already a pleasure to drink, but its complexity and power will really come to the fore with further bottle ageing. SUPERIORE.DE
"Raspberries, damp earth, herbs and orange peel on the nose. Medium-bodied with dusty tannins and an attractive minerality. Firm and persistent. Drink or store." James Suckling
"The Nino Negri 2019 Valtellina Superiore Valgella Vigna Fracia shows a bright ruby color, and although the bouquet is not as immediately expressive as some of its peers, it does open slowly to cassis, dried orange peel and sweet nectarine. The bouquet is characterized by red berry, orchard fruit and hints of wild rose or mountain flower. It feels delicate and light in texture. This wine is packed in a bottle with a greenish-gray label that reflects the slate soils of Valgella. Give it a bit more time in bottle." Wine Advocate

“Cinque Stelle” Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG 2020
Outstanding terroir, terrific grape quality and technical mastery in the cellar have made this one of the most highly prized wines! Beguiling aromas of candied cherry fruit with notes of spices and tobacco. Dense on the palate, very concentrated with fabulous fruit sweetness, subtle acidity and fresh tannins. A hedonistic and at the same time very contemporary dream of finesse and elegance that lingers with long and incredibly deep flavours. SUPERIORE.DE
"It has aromas of walnuts, cherries and olives. Some chocolate, orange and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, firm and flavourful, with roasted and firm tannins. Drink or store." James Suckling
"Complex, powerful nose that shows a certain development. Intense flavour, with warming alcohol and strong cherries on the finish." Decanter
"The Nino Negri 2020 Sforzato di Valtellina Sfursat 5 Stelle definitely shows extra power and heat, followed by layers of cherry liqueur, crème de cassis, blood orange and dried apricot. Despite the bigger intensity and fruit profile obtained with the Sforzato method that uses air-dried fruit, the wine is elegant, closing with blue flower and lilac." Wine Advocate
"Still the benchmark for this type, balsamic nose of jammy blackcurrants, juniper berries, pepper leaf and liquorice, salty-spicy, dense and compact mouthfeel, with fruity and undergrowth recognition value and excellent persistence." Luca Gardini

"The 2018 Sfursat 5 Stelle is compelling. Macerated dark cherry, leather, herbs and baking spices are nicely pushed forward. Impeccable in its balance and overall harmony, the 2018 looks to offer fine drinking over the near and medium term. It is another terrific wine from Negri that points to a bright future." Vinous

In the Italian wine industry, the historic Nino Negri winery is a point of reference for the entire Valtellina region. After the founder of the winery in 1897, the viticultural and oenological development of the Valtellina, whose wines were already raved about by the famous polymath Leonardo da Vinci, progressed. However, the trend-setting impulse for the great success of the winery, which was established about 120 years ago, was given by Nino's son Carluccio when he consistently renewed it, gradually renovated the vineyards and improved the cellar technology. Carluccio Negri also succeeded in conquering distant markets such as America and Australia. The modern and well-organised wine producer from the municipality of Chiuro in the province of Sondrio north of Lake Como manages to combine modernity with tradition exceptionally well. Nino Negri has become synonymous with top Valtellina wines because of its very high reliability. Since 1986, the estate has been owned by Gruppo Italiano Vini and is the top wine estate in the large empire of one of the largest producers of quality wines in Italy.
Under the expert supervision of the sensitive and very competent Oenologist and wine director Danilo Drocco (until 2017: Casimiro Maule), a top technical team transforms the Chiavennasca grape variety - as Nebbiolo is called here - into outstanding, multi-faceted noble wines with a particularly full aroma, whose quality is admired worldwide. A particular speciality of Nino Negri is the Sforzato di Valtellina. Drocco's predecessor Maule, by the way, was named Oenologist of the year 2007 by the wine guide Gambero Rosso. The winemaker had understood very early on how to masterfully exploit the enormous potential of this red grape variety in the old vaults of the renovated Palazzo Quadrio, which dates back to the 15th century. His successor has successfully continued this legacy in recent years.
Danilo Drocco is always surprised at the opportunities offered by the Lombardy soils. The winery's own vineyards in prime locations, some of which are very steep and whose terraces, up to 120 centimetres wide, are enclosed by ancient dry stone walls, are cultivated in an environmentally friendly manner. The Fracia vineyard has belonged to the winery since its foundation and has been planted exclusively with Nebbiolo since 1922. The vineyards in the Grumello, Inferno and Sassella subzones are also planted with small amounts of Pinot Nero and Chardonnay. Another small part of the grapes destined for production comes from strictly selected regional winegrowers.
The vines of the Nino Negri winery cultivated on the mountain slopes find extremely favourable growing conditions in the contrasting microclimate zone thanks to mostly sandy, mineral-rich soils with a slightly silty subsoil, best aeration and optimal sunshine. The growing area is protected from the cold north winds by the Rhaetian Alps in winter. SUPERIORE.DE
