Franciacorta Millesimato DOCG 2013 Extra Brut

This noble spumante made of 100% Chardonnay matures for five years on fine yeast. Bright straw yellow with golden reflections. Intense bouquet of ripe pineapple, white peach and dried fruit. Fine citrus spice on the palate, good acidity, minerality in the finish. A wonderfully dry, very long and intense top-quality sparkling wine, which not only cuts a fine figure with sushi and sashimi, but also with light meat dishes. SUPERIORE.DE

    About the winemakersLo SparviereLombardy
    Lo Sparviere

Ugo Gussalli Beretta is the descendant of one of the oldest families in Europe, which produces weapons and which, along with the Agnellis and Barillas, is one of the most powerful industrial families in Italy. In the gentle hills around the municipality of Monticelli Brusati in Franciacorta lies the Lo Sparviere winery, named after the sparrowhawk who lives there. The bird of prey, which belongs to the hawk family, adorns both the coat of arms and the fireplace in the company's main hall. The beautiful 16th century villa belonging to the property has been lovingly restored over the years, as has the venerable cellar, where still today fruity, dense and mineral sparkling wines with fine and persistent perlage are produced according to the traditional Metodo-Classico method. The Lo Sparviere estate extends over 150 hectares, one fifth of which is used for wine-growing.

Because of his love for wine, Ugo Gussalli had founded the agricultural group Gussalli Beretta. Under its roof, in addition to Lo Sparviere, are the Castello di Radda estates in the Chianti Classico area, Orlandi Contucci Ponno in Abruzzo and the Cascina Pressenda in Castelletto di Monforte d'Alba. Lo Sparviere is guided with a sure hand by Ugo's wife Monique Poncelet. Born in Belgium, she learned to appreciate Franciacorta - the land of sparkling wines, castles, fortresses and churches - at an early age.

The vineyards of Lo Sparviere extend as far as the neighbouring municipality of Provaglio d'Iseo. The grape variety range is dominated by Chardonnay and Pinot Nero. The light wind, which constantly blows through the hills and vineyards during the vegetation period, ensures the development of the filigree aromas and minimises the use of plant protection measures. The strict reduction of the yield and the careful selection of the grapes, which come exclusively from our own parcels, form the basis for the later top qualities of the well-balanced sparkling and still wines ripening in centuries-old vaults.

The Azienda Agricola Lo Sparviere is currently being converted into an ecological farm. The leadership duo draws on centuries-old experience dating back to the Middle Ages and uses modern vinification methods for Franciacorta wines. After the second fermentation all sparkling products are stored on the fine yeast for at least two years, the cuvées even up to six years. An effort that was rewarded: With the 2014 edition of the renowned wine guideGambero Rosso, the winery in the province of Brescia was awarded the coveted Tre Bicchieri for the first time - for the Franciacorta DOCG 2007 Extra Brut.
