“Burdigai” Rosato Colline Savonesi IGT 2021
"Burdigai" is Ligurian dialect and means shrubs of the Mediterranean maquis. From a small and isolated terrace facing west, surrounded by Mediterranean shrubs, comes this truly original Rosato, which should not actually exist. Because the grape variety is unknown, it is alternatively called "Franseise" because it apparently comes from the south of France and not even the owners know the exact origin and age, nor do they know who planted the vines there in the first place. Nevertheless, the vines have been cultivated and cared for over decades and at some point the family council decided to press an independent rosé from them.
Intense coral pink, fine and original bouquet of pink grapefruit, raspberry and strawberry with subtle mineral notes. Very dry in the mouth, floral, with lively acidity and pronounced spiciness. Characteristic is the mineral-chalky impression at the back of the palate, which prolongs the wine's originality and tension. The lasting impression left by this exciting and full-bodied and pleasantly purist Rosato is a blend of elegance, finesse and uncompromisingness that is second to none. SUPERIORE.DE

“Le Russeghine” Pigato Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC 2021
The grapes come mainly from the historic Russeghine vineyard above the town of Ranzo Borgo. The expression of the Pigato here is of particular depth and minerality, which is due to the exceptional terroir and the long ageing on the fine lees. Bright straw yellow with light green reflections. Fragrant nose of herbs, yellow fruit and traces of pine resin. Full and long-lasting taste with beautiful spiciness and aromas of citrus and almond, then at the end again this beguiling, deep minerality. SUPERIORE.DE

“Pulin” Rosso Colline Savonesi IGT 2019
Pulin is the result of the rediscovery of the Granaccia grape, which is one of the most precious of the small wine region of Liguria and was almost extinct. The wines, produced in absolutely small quantities, have an excellent structure, Mediterranean radiance and remarkable ageing potential.
Intense and concentrated cherry red, Mediterranean bouquet of red fruits such as strawberry, blackberry, wild strawberries, plus fine hints of sweet spices and tobacco. On the palate, very harmonious with elegant, polished tannins and a very long and spicy finish. An impressive red of great complexity, elegance and finesse, here all components are impressively perfectly matched. SUPERIORE.DE

“u Baccan” Pigato Riviera Ligure di Ponente DOC 2020
The Pigato grape has great ageing and maturation potential, especially in Liguria. U Baccan (Ligurian: the head) comes mostly from vines of the Russeghine vineyard, which are over 50 years old, produce a very low yield, and give it tremendous complexity.
Intense straw yellow with bright golden-green reflections. Impressive purity on the nose with beguiling hints of sage, thyme, peach, mango, cedar bark, acacia honey and silica. Enveloping, balsamic and mineral on the palate, then a hint of salty almond and candied citrus on the long, vibrant final. A Pigato in a class of its own in finest Riserva quality. SUPERIORE.DE

Riccardo Bruna's daughters Francesca and Annamaria went to Genoa for their studies, convinced that engineering and pharmaceutical chemistry was their future. But it didn't take them long to convince themselves of the opposite and they were drawn back to the vineyards of their beautiful Ligurian homeland. Her father's deep-rooted passion for Ligurian wine could not pass the sisters by without leaving a trace.
"My father thought he was a traditionalist, but I knew he was in fact a revolutionary," says Francesca Bruna, who today successfully continues the Bruna family winery together with her husband Roberto. Her father Riccardo had indeed revolutionary views on Ligurian viticulture and was one of the first winemakers to devote his heart and soul to growing the Pigato grape - a white, late-ripening grape variety related to the Vermentino.
Thanks to Riccardo Bruna's intuition and enthusiasm, he began to restore and sustainably cultivate the historic family vineyards in Ranzo in the early 1970s. From the very beginning, abandoning all herbicides and synthetic products was the only possible way for Riccardo Bruna to harvest the best grapes and thus produce ever better wines every year. This approach was not very common at the time, which meant that the winery was able to stand out from the competition.
Courageous decisions were therefore a constant part of the company's working philosophy and the following generation has also remained faithful to it: In addition to the biological-natural cultivation of the vines, fermentation takes place in the cellar with native yeasts. Pure yeasts are used without exception and the wines mature for a long time on the noble autochthonous lees.
"This has always been our way of working with Pigato grapes," says Francesca, who is now one of the leading quality producers in Liguria. The typical characteristics of the grape variety and Riccardo's personality should remain unmistakable in their own wines, which Francesca and Roberto have undoubtedly achieved. In collaboration with the oenologist Valter Bonetti, they produce not only tasty Pigato wines but also an outstanding Vermentino and harmonious red wine cuvées from the Rossese, Granaccia, Syrah and Barbera grape varieties.
Today, eight hectares of vineyards thrive on Ligurian stone wall terraces between the municipalities of Ortovero and Ranzo, amidst Mediterranean maquis, olive trees and oaks. The dry, mild and very windy climate allows the vines to grow in a natural way, surrounded by the endless horizon of the western Mediterranean and the enchanted green landscape of the Ligurian Alps. The Bruna winery represents Liguria's unique beauty and diversity, preserved for a long time by the family of the same name. SUPERIORE.DE
