The history of Tunella and its most precious fruit, the grape, is inseparably linked to the area of the Colli Orientali del Friuli and the mixed soil of sandstone and marl - called "ponca" in Friulian. The cantina in the small village of Premariacco, twelve kilometres east of Udine, can certainly be described as a modern and functional model winery that can look back on a remarkably large assortment and impressive sales volumes. Founded by Min Zorzettig between the world wars and later continued by his son Livio, the winery is now in the hands of the third generation of the family and is managed by the still young but already very experienced brothers Massimo (marketing) and Marco (care of the vines). Both are supported by their mother Gabriella and their wives Romina and Barbara. The mostly white wines of the Friulian winery reflect the Zorzettigs' know-how of around one hundred years and convince with their unmistakable distinctness on the palate and in the nose.
Luigino Zamparo, a friend of the house of Tunella, as a young oenologist already has the knowledge and routine of a cellar master with many years of experience. The technologies of the architecturally beautiful winery are highly modern. The dynamic and well-coordinated team has plenty of space for wooden barrels of different sizes in the cellar, which is extremely functional on two levels and serves the various wine-making processes. The room for drying the grapes is equipped with controlled ventilation and cooling.
The vines are trained according to the traditional Guyot method and the Friulian monocapovolto (high vine with overhang). The yield of Tunella's vineyards has been limited to between 7,500 and 9000 kilograms per hectare in order to improve the quality of the grapes. The assortment ranges from the classic red and white wines to cuvees and Trockenbeerenauslese, as well as top white wines made from high-quality autochthonous varieties, which are released for sale one year later than the basic wines.
