The Michele and Massimo Alois winery, situated in a valley not far from the Volturno river north of the town of Caserta in Campania, has made an impressive return to the road to success after masterful beginnings and a short period of standstill. The production in the partially modernized plant was redesigned by the new technical manager Carmine Valentino towards a more classic style. In addition, new vineyards were purchased in high hill areas. The wines are matured in steel tanks and in wooden barrels of different sizes and ages and are characterised by a modern wine style and a pleasant drinking flow. The aim of the family is above all to continue the successes achieved with domestic grape varieties and to grow even more organically in the future.
In the newly acquired plots not far from the inactive volcano Roccamonfina and the Matese massif, the family, which has become famous for its silk fabrics, concentrates on grape varieties traditionally cultivated in the Colline Caiatine, such as Pallagrello and Casavecchia. Aglianico and Falanghina, however, as red and white grapes, retain their important position in their own and leased vineyards. The vineyard that originally surrounded the estate still had an extension of half a hectare; that was only nine rows planted with vines. Today, Michele Alois, on the other hand, already cultivates 30 hectares, including the Morrone della Monica vineyards with their clayey and calcareous skeleton soils and Audelino (volcanic with a high mineral content), with great dedication. The number of plants is indicated by the pair of winegrowers with only 5,200 vines per hectare.
The more recent history of the Fattoria Alois dates back to 1992, when Michele Alois planted nine autochthonous grape varieties, thus giving the family dynasty dating back to the late 19th century, i.e. to the time of Ferdinand IV, a further task in addition to silk. Furthermore, not only the silk scarves of Michele and Massimo will decorate the walls of the Louvre and the White House, but also the noble drops of the old-established Campanian family will find favor.
