“Vigna dell’Impero 1935” Rosso Val d’Arno di Sopra DOC 2015
The Sangiovese grapes of this wine come from the vineyard of the Empire of His Royal Highness the Count of Turin, Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy, who planted it in 1935. The soil is a mixture of clay and gravel, rich in marl and rock, which gives the grapes a spectacular minerality. The variations in temperature during the day play a decisive role in developing the finest aromas, which are elegant and complex. The wine, bottled in numbered bottles, is not filtered in order to preserve all the typical varietal notes and characteristics of Sangiovese. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, intense garnet red. Very open and accessible nose, old-style in the best sense, of rhubarb, pomegranate, sour cherry and cherry stones. Relaxed and supple at the base, it opens with a grippy, fine-grained tannin, salty and very long, ripe fruit in the aftertaste". (Place 45 / 100 "Best 100 under 100€) Falstaff
"The 2015 Valdarno di Sopra Vigna dell'Impero offers aromas of candied cherry, blackberry, spice and leather. The finish is on the soft side, and I am assigning a slightly shorter drinking window for this warm vintage as a result. The fruit is concentrated and rich, thanks to the heat of the growing season." Wine Advocate
"A tight and focused red with cherry, earth and orange peel. Roses, too. Full body yet very reserved with ultra-fine tannins and a fresh finish. Linear and beautiful. Old vine sangiovese. Shows outstanding potential. " James Suckling

“Per Sempre” Syrah Toscana IGT 2016 · MAGNUM in OWC
Deep dark, almost impenetrable red. In the nose a whole range of mature forest berries, finely underlined by nuances of tobacco, leather and lavender. Also on the palate with a lot of fruit, powerful, but still silky and elegant. SUPERIORE.DE
"Powerful, sparkling ruby violet. Clear and present nose, of elderberries, plums and dried kitchen herbs. In the front much rich fruit, opens with velvety, dense tannin, smooth and very long, like from a casting, builds up in the back area rich, firm pressure, in the aftertaste dark chocolate, somewhat alcoholic." Falstaff
"This is an absolutely gorgeous expression, very full and generous. The 2016 Syrah Per Sempre spent a little less time in oak compared to other vintages, just 16 months, and the results are excellent. This area's Syrah always does best in hot years, such as 2009 and 2007, and this vintage is reminiscent of the latter. There is lovely black fruit, surrounded by milled black pepper and hints of charcuterie. The key to hot-vintage Syrah is to keep the extraction low: This wine saw a 20-day maceration period, but still, the Syrah Per Sempre is thick and highly concentrated, and the 15% alcohol content is unmistakable. This would be a perfect accompaniment to a filet mignon and potatoes au gratin. This Syrah is a true standout." Wine Advocate
"Tua Rita's 2016 Syrah Per Sempre is fabulous. Crème de cassis, lavender, licorice, plum and blueberry jam are all beautifully delineated. Savory, powerful and also structured, the 2016 has plenty of intensity, but it also is not as dense or obvious as has been the case in the recent past. Readers should be prepared to cellar the 2016 for at least a few years." Antonio Galloni
"This is very exotic and seductive with dark berries, incense, citronelle and hints of sandalwood. Full-bodied, chewy and intense with a powerful palate and a long finish. Very fresh and muscular syrah. Needs three or four years to come around." James Suckling

A few days ago they were unveiled: the new ratings of selected Tuscan wines from the wonderful vintages 2015 and 2016, with some 98-point wines from the region's leading wineries for years, but also wonderful wines off the beaten track, such as from the sub-regions Carmignano, Val d'Arno di Sopra or Rufina.
Fontalloro 2016: "The 2016 Fontalloro is the best vintage of this landmark wine that I have tasted thus far. This is a very elegant vintage, with more volume in the mouth and precise notes of tar, licorice, camphor ash, resin and Indian spice" 98+ points
Galatrona 2016: "This is the flagship wine from Luca Sanjust's Petrolo estate located not too far from Arezzo in the Valdarno area of eastern Tuscany. The 2016 Galatrona is indeed a masterpiece to behold." 98 points
Redigaffi 2016: "Wow. This is a beautiful year for Tua Rita's legendary Merlot. It has a remarkable persistence to the bouquet, along with tonic crispness and a velvety mouthfeel. It's a complete and beautifully structured expression, most notable for its freshness and softness." 98 points
From Barone Ricasoli to Tua Rita: Have fun browsing and enjoying, as always, while stocks last.
