“Palafreno” Rosso Toscana IGT 2015 (BIO) · 6 Bottles in OWC

Energetic, incredibly multi-layered Merlot of the extra class. Ethereal bouquet of plum, black cherry, menthol and spices. Very rich in nuances on the palate, opulent to expressive, at second glance then smooth, almost elegant. Almost unbeatable in complexity, depth and richness of finesse, in the next years he will reveal more and more of his repertoire. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, intense ruby red. Clear and fragrant nose of blackberry, cherry and mulberry, with spicy components (quendel, tyhmian). On the palate it shows dense, firm tannin, clear fruit, in the final again emphasized spicy notes, firm pressure. Falstaff

"This is a beautiful merlot showing blackberry, black-olive and fresh-herb character. Full-bodied with very chewy yet polished tannins and a long and flavorful finish." James Suckling

"The 2015 Palafreno is one of the more understated Tuscan Merlots readers will come across. This site, in the Ruffoli district of Greve, at 400 meters above sea level, yields a distinctly savory, nuanced Merlot that emphasizes energy and nuance over power, all of which make it a truly special and distinctive wine. Even in this warm year, Palafreno needs time in bottle to soften the tannins." Vinous

"Brilliant, rich ruby. Very well developed fruit in the nose, full of blackberry and wild raspberry. On the palate dense tannin, fresh fruit, then unfortunately a little rough in the final." Falstaff

"A very solid red with blackberries, cherries and crushed stones that follow through to a full body with chewy tannins and loads of fruit, yet always tight and reserved." James Suckling

"The 2016 Palafreno, 100% Merlot from the estate vineyards in Greve, brings together so much of what makes the Querciabella wines so appealing. In the glass the 2016 is deep and vibrant, yet also remains light on its feet. A whole range of mineral and savory notes confer freshness. The 2016 spent 18 months in French oak, with 25% new wood. It's another stellar wine from Querciabella." Vinous

    • "Camarcanda" Bolgheri DOC 2013
6 Bottles in OWC

“Camarcanda” Bolgheri DOC 2013 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Camarcanda is a rich Bolgheri Rosso with a dark bouquet of black fruits, espresso, chocolate, liquorice and tar. On the palate it is extremely full-bodied, with excellent depth, dense structure and firm body. Opulent and long, this wine already today shows a wide range of its personality. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2013 Bolgheri Rosso Camarcanda shows the pedigree of the vintage and the importance this top shelf wine deserves. This is an exceptional blend of Merlot with Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc that is challenging to taste next to the 2014 Magari, which is so radically different. Camarcanda reveals Gaja's signature touch with full and generous fruit layers that are backed by spice, leather, tobacco and lovely succulence. The wine is integrated and smooth with long-lasting favors and beautiful tannin management. Despite its heft, the wine is elegant and silky through and through." Robert Parker

"Very Bordeaux-like, this red offers plum, cherry, coffee, green olive and spice aromas and flavors. Taut and dense, with a long, fresh finish that exudes cedar, sandalwood and green olive notes." Wine Spectator

    • "Dedicato a Walter" Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2016
6 Bottles in OWC

“Dedicato a Walter” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2016 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Marilisa and Franco Allegrini dedicated this single-varietal Cabernet Franc from their own vineyards on Via Bolgherese to their eldest brother Walter, who died in 2003. The 2015 vintage marked the beginning of an even more radical focus on the terroir and the quality of the grapes. Since then, a third fewer bottles have been filled each year, and the result is now a Bolgheri Superiore from their own grapes from the core zone of Bolgheri, which can hardly be surpassed in elegance and character. Compact and elegant Cabernet Franc with fine tobacco notes, ripe blackcurrant aromas, some pepper and eucalyptus, plus slightly earthy tones. Dense fruit and polished tannin on the palate, clear, rich final. SUPERIORE.DE

"Cabernet Franc in purezza from a 7-hectare vineyard: a potpourri of blackberries, spices and pepper is beguiling from the first sniff; elegant yet full of character with precise tannins, the finish is long and extremely complex. Put it in the cellar for the time being, then it will be even more fun." Vinum

"This red is vibrant and tightly woven, featuring black currant, blackberry, wild herb, iron and spice flavors. The oak is well integrated, as are the powdery tannins. The finish is long and focused." Wine Spectator

"A pretty and firm wine with blackberry and cherry character. Full body, firm and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Attractive and exciting. Love the tannin structure. 100% cabernet franc." James Suckling

"Poggio al Tesoro's 2016 Dedicato a Walter exudes richness and power in all of its dimensions. Blackberry jam, chocolate, lavender, licorice and menthol all flesh out in an ample, potent wine that shows all the potential of Franc in Tuscany's Maremma. I would give the 2016 another year or so in bottle, as the tannins are a bit imposing at this stage." Vinous

"This is one of the first monovarietal expressions of Cabernet Franc to shine the spotlight on the grape and its exciting performance in Bolgheri. The Poggio al Tesoro 2016 Bolgheri Superiore Dedicato A Walter opens to a darkly saturated and impenetrable appearance. The bouquet is heavily enriched with black fruit, burnt ember, mesquite and campfire ash. The oak is quite evident at this stage, but it should continue to shed and sand away with time. At its core, the wine is packed with black fruit, and you also get delicate notes of rosemary oil, pressed lavender and scorched earth." Robert Parker

    • Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba "Aeroplanservaj" DOCG 2016
6 Bottles/6 Labels in OWC

Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba “Aeroplanservaj” DOCG 2016 · 6 Bottles/6 Labels in OWC

A beautiful, very sensual, feminine wine, vinified only in the best vintages. Exquisitely scented with dark fruit, elegant and fine on the palate with lots of fruit and long. It was named after the nickname that the young wild Clerico once got from his father: Aeroplan Servaj - wild plane. And just as wild and creative is the decoration of the bottles, but see for yourself! SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2016 Barolo Aeroplan Servaj is powerful and incisive, with plenty of Serralunga tannin that gives the wine tension. Red cherry and red plum fruit pulse with real energy all the way through to the finish, with a whole range of savory and iron/mineral accents that add complexity. Deceptive in its mid-weight, structure, the 2016 has a lot to offer." Vinous

"A soft, silky red with fine, round tannins. Medium-bodied with berries, orange peel, cedar and milk-chocolate powder. Some tile, too. It’s persistent and focused. Lovely refinement. Better after 2023." James Suckling

"Aeroplan Servaj or "little airplane" is the affectionate nickname that Domenico's father gave to his young "free spirited" son. The Domenico Clerico 2016 Barolo Aeroplan Servaj is tightly wound and nervous at this young stage. The wine needs some coaxing before it relaxes to release wild cherry, candied orange peel, tilled earth and rusty nail. There is some distant sweetness in the primary fruit, but the wine is mostly defined by its very sophisticated, rich, sultry and savory sides. Between these two vintages (2015 and 2016), this wine is poised to ultimately deliver better results once it gets further down its evolutionary track. It delivers impeccable balance and linearity." Vigna Schiena d'Asino from the house Mastrojanni is a modern Brunello in Riserva quality. Wonderfully pure fruit, which plays out all the advantages of Sangiovese. Intense aromas of light cherries, balsamic notes of anise and spices. Nuanced and balanced on the palate, it has a long and crystalline aftertaste - a great and rare wine. SUPERIORE.DE

    • Barolo del Comune di La Morra DOCG 2017
6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo del Comune di La Morra DOCG 2017 · 6 Bottles in OWC

This is the second vintage of Roberto's "entry-level Barolo" and its grapes come from four of his best sites, harvested a few weeks earlier than those then reserved for his Grand Crus. This year, too, he has married them into a beautiful Barolo and the Barolo Comune di La Morra ranks almost seamlessly within reach of the class of his top tier. It is also the most balanced of his Barolos, even if fruit and acidity are anything but restrained, but the proportions are simply right here once again. The structure is great, its length and also the elegance inspiring - the refined layered components like raspberry, cherry and its subtle salty vein make it without a doubt one of the most serious wines of the entire appellation - this is a real Voerzio for comparatively little money. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dried strawberry with asphalt, dried meat and acorns. Lots of flowers as well. Full-bodied and powerful with fantastic depth of fruit and layers of chewy, ripe tannins. An extremely powerful and muscular wine, yet it maintains its energy and verve." James Suckling

    • Brunello di Montalcino "Vigna Loreto" DOCG 2016
6 Bottles in OWC

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigna Loreto” DOCG 2016 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Once upon a time, there was a vineyard that was particularly pampered by the sun of Montalcino; it still bears the name Vigna Loreto. Only in the best vintages does a Brunello come from this exposed site that is bursting with richness, complexity and assertiveness. It has a textural depth and at the same time a balance that is intoxicating. Fruit, spice and very distinctive nuances such as spicy herbs, liquorice, tobacco and firm tannins make this impressive wine monument linger long on the palate and in the memory. With each sip, it opens up further layers and you might almost sink into it, so much do the boundaries of what is comparable shift. The 2016 Vigna Loreto is hard to beat in personality and expressiveness, it is something really great and you don't experience that every day! SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling, rich garnet red. Attractive and accessible nose with rich notes of ripe cherries, wild raspberry and some leather, exciting. Also shows great tension on the palate, grippy tannin in many layers, hearty and deep, shows very good density, present fruit, firm pressure on the final." Falstaff

"Fragrant purple-flower, pipe-tobacco, camphor and new leather aromas take shape on this full-bodied red. Firmly structured, the youthfully austere palate offers dried cherry, licorice and roasted coffee bean alongside assertive, close-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast

"Mastrojanni's wines are crafted by Andrea Machetti, resident winemaker since 1992, and revered consulting oenologist. Maurizio Castelli. Produced since 2007, Vigna Loreto hails from a 1.5-hectare plot with pebbly soil rich in limestone. Initial wafts of blue flowers turn to cocoa, cedar and spice. On the palate, the tannins are already pliant and smooth and there is a vague layer of oak in the background. Deep and full, it finishes with refreshing acidity and an exotic twist of ginger." Decanter

"This suave and velvety red boasts cherry, leather, earth, tobacco and woodsy aromas and flavors. Verging on creamy, the texture showcases the ripe, macerated cherry fruit, ending with a dusting of tannins. Offers fine overall balance and length." Wine Spectator

"This has a pleasantly dusty nose of dried raspberries, cloves and sandalwood. Refined tannins. Crushed red berries and some tobacco leaf on the palate lend elegance to this full-bodied red." James Suckling

"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Loreto wafts up with a gorgeous display of crushed stone, graphite and exotic savory spices before giving way to citrus-tinged cherries, cinnamon and clove. It's silky-smooth and medium in body with a weighty density to its polished yet compact dark red and black fruits, all perfectly framed by juicy acids. Minerals, spiced orange and purple inner florals amass toward the close, as fine tannins slowly saturate, creating a dry yet wonderfully balanced expression through the finale." Vinous

"The Vigna Loreto, located on the slope in front of the Mastrojanni winery, is the estate's showpiece vineyard, not only because it is positioned in full view of incoming visitors but also because of its ideal southeast-facing exposures. It is 1.58 hectares in size and has pebbles and tufo. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Loreto (with 8,000 bottles produced) is awash in sunlight and Tuscan luminosity, resulting in a ripe and fruit-forward Brunello that never shies away in terms of richness or intensity. Indeed, the wine delivers a special level of power that transcends the bouquet and the palate, resulting in dark fruit, spice, leather, cured tobacco and rosemary essence. The tannins are firm but integrated and otherwise tucked into the ample flesh of the wine." Robert Parker

Fantastic bouquet, clear and fruity with cherries, elderberries and blackberries. Also on the palate very fresh, compact, multi-layered, with firm tannin and firm pressure. A Riserva full of elegance and class. SUPERIORE.DE

"Deep ruby with bright bricky tinges. Deep, ripe nose with earthy dried-cherry notes. A touch of tar and then mouth-filling fruit supported by lashes of grainy tannins. Impressive depth and length. While this is firmly in the dried-fruit spectrum, it still is complex, although I wonder what its life span will be." Jancis Robinson

"The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a dark and brooding Sangiovese that flaunts its depth, sophistication and balanced weight. The fruit is thick and powerful, and the wine's textural richness is polished and beautiful. The wine goes through alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and then ages in both small and large oak vessels for three years. Only 7,000 bottles were made." Robert Parker

"Some rather brash spicy oak aromas sit across ripe dark cherries and leafy nuances. The palate has a smooth and even-paced feel to it. Good depth of ripe dark cherry flavors. A really long and succulent finish. This has much to offer." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2015 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Uccellieras Riserva 2015 is a dark, thoughtful and powerful wine. It only gradually reveals its richness and complexity of spices, tobacco, cured meat and dried blackberries and plums. This wine monument is only at the beginning of a long maturation development and yet already convinces us on all levels. It offers breathtaking intensity, power, integrity and at the same time excellent balance. Its aromatic momentum continues to grow and becomes more extensive and complete the more air the wine takes in the glass. Only the too impatient will not give it more years in the cellar. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dense aromas of ripe berries, dried cherries, spicy bark and hints of orange rind follow through to a medium to full body with fine, firm tannins that are coated with fresh, spicy and citrusy notes that linger long. Well balanced acidity provides even greater length." James Suckling

"The Uccelliera 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a great achievement and is among my top favorite wines from Andrea Cortonesi tasted in the 20 or so years I have followed this estate. There is a lot of power here, thanks to that golden Castelnuovo dell'Abate sunshine, so I cannot liken this wine to some of the more ethereal and delicate expressions that I also love. Instead, this Riserva delivers brawn, dark fruit and muscle, but it does so with sincerity and honesty. You can't help but appreciate the complexity on offer. The wine offers plenty of dark fruit, but you also get licorice, balsam herb and crushed limestone. There is a lot of beauty to admire." Robert Parker

"An enticing version, whose vibrant character sets the pace for fresh black cherry, blackberry, iron and tobacco, with a frame of oak spice. Round and solidly built, this persists with lingering accents of fruit, mineral and spice." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino “Rennina” DOCG 2013 · 6 Bottles in OWC

A modernist, as he says in the book. Balanced and impressive at the same time. Strong scents and flavours of violets, black cherries, tobacco and menthol. The tannins are firm and yet beautifully integrated. Rennina is a complex, medium-weight wine, which has a great positive influence on its ageing potential and constitutes its success story. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Rennina is a dark, plush and succulent red wine with seamless overall integration. Angelo Gaja makes his wines with broad brush strokes that form shapes of perfect harmony and grandeur. He seems less interested in the minutiae, much in the same way an impressionist painter creates a portrait without consideration for the gritty details of reality. Continuing with my art metaphor, I'll venture to say that this is a big-picture wine that embraces bold fruit, oak spice, acidity and tannin in one overwhelming and warm embrace. I usually score the Sugarille a point or two higher, but this year the Rennina won my heart." Robert Parker

"Aromas of orange peel, dark fruit and bark. Dried mushroom, too. Full body and extremely polished and velvety tannins that are plush but compacted. Delicious finish." James Suckling

"Deep ruby. Lots of oak and lively, concentrated cherry on the nose. Oak has quite a big impact but there is such a lot of fruit that it integrates. The finish has amazing length and muscular grip, but it could do with much less oak, because it plays up on the finish." Jancis Robinson

"This perfumed Brunello offers enticing scents of pressed violet, rose, talcum powder, wild berry, eucalyptus and a whiff of exotic spice. On the structured palate, firm fine-grained tannins provide support for dried black cherry, licorice, vanilla and a hint of espresso." Wine Enthusiast

"This is fragrant, offering cherry, leather, floral and spice notes. On the palate, this remains fresh, with persistent flavors and fine harmony. Dusty tannins pull everything together on the finish. There's plenty of energy here." Wine Spectator

    • Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2015
6 Bottles in OWC

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2015 · 6 Bottles in OWC

A Riserva is produced in the winery only in the best years, and the result is just over 3,000 bottles of the finest Sangiovese, which presents itself in the 2015 edition undisputedly in the first league of Montalcino. Medium light red, wonderfully balanced aromas and an almost seamless transition from nose to palate. Notes of wild berries, spices and forest floor come together like a team to create a rich, deep and highly balanced growth, which is already on the podium after the first sip. Texture, structure and tannins are not to be surpassed in harmony and leave an impression in the long reverberation, dan one does not forget again. 2015 was a very harmonious and rich year, this Brunello captures the character of the vintage impressively precisely. Chapeau! SUPERIORE.DE

"A full-bodied, structured red with smoke, tar and grilled mushrooms on the nose. Some bitter berries to go with the earthy mushrooms. Chewy tannins and a long, savory finish. Lots of citrus." James Suckling

"The Gianni Brunelli Le Chiuse di Sotto 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is another beauty from this bijoux estate. This wine offers texture and depth, but it does not have the same level of luminosity or brightness that we got in the 2016 Brunello. It shows some charred aromas with spice and ripe fruit, with wide and large ambition. I got a touch of Graham cracker and brown sugar, followed by spice and ripe fruit. This is a long and generous wine, with soft fruit and texture on the long finish." Robert Parker

"The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino from Gianni Brunelli didn’t leave much room for improvement; yet somehow the Riserva manages to take things to a whole new level. The bouquet alone is absolutely stunning, as you could sit with this glass for an hour and never grow tired of taking in its mix of sweet wild herbs, dusty florals and bright cherry fruit. Sage, lavender, spiced orange and flowery undergrowth complete this already-dazzling expression. It’s deep and silky, verging on fleshy but not quite, as a tactile mix of acids, minerals and fine tannin settle in. That said, while the 2015 Riserva is classically structured and dry, it prioritizes purity of fruit above all else, seeming to hover upon the senses and never grow tiring. Fans of Gianni Brunelli will be very happy to have a few of these resting in the cellar. The Riserva is typically made from a higher percentage of fruit from the Olmo vineyard at Podernovone in the south balanced out by a parcel from Le Chiuse in the north, which adds freshness." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016 · 6 Bottles in OWC

When the world-famous oenologist Carlo Ferrini makes his own wine, one can be excited. So he has succeeded here in an interpretation of Sangiovese, which brings all his experience from decades of work with this grape variety as through a burning glass to the point. The moderate use of wood through aging in 700l tonneaux brings out the clarity and personality of the grape and the unique terroir (there are just 1.5 hectares of best Brunello sites) in an archetypal way. A great harmony of dark cherries, black fruits, spices, leather and tobacco, ideally integrated tannins and great persistence will quickly make the few thousand bottles a sought-after collector's item. SUPERIORE.DE

"Noble, dark ruby with garnet. Wonderful, open-hearted and inviting nose of black cherries, ripe blackberries, plums, paired with slightly earthy nuances. On the palate then with fine-meshed tannin, opens in many layers, juicy, with fine melting, long and adhering, in the reverberation noble spice." Falstaff

"Upon meeting Carlo Ferrini for the first time some 15 years ago, I remember vividly when he described himself as a Sangiovesista, or an adherent of the school of Sangiovese. Many years later, and perhaps to cement that self-appointed moniker, the wine consultant has now settled in Montalcino, or the ultimate holy ground to Sangiovese. Ferrini has embarked on his Giodo estate, creating his own temple to the mighty Tuscan grape. As a consultant, Ferrini has endured many stylistic transformations over the years, but the personality embraced in his 2016 Brunello di Montalcino celebrates varietal purity, balance and elegance, and I write those words free of hyperbole. Delicate forest berry fruits open to spice, forest floor and balsam herb. The wine presents a pretty wave of freshness, followed by firm tannins and enough fruity texture to smooth over the palate. This is a career-defining wine for this proud Sangiovesista." Robert Parker

"Seamless is a great way to describe this red wine with intense aromas of plums, cherries, walnut and sandalwood. Some lightly toasted oak, roses and lavender as well. Really aromatic. The palate is full and extremely polished with super fine tannins that go on for minutes and spread across your palate. A great wine, following the perfect, 100-point 2015." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino “Podernovi” DOCG 2016 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Podernovi is San Polo's great single-vineyard Brunello. Ruby red colour with light garnet reflections. On the nose, floral aromas of violets, cyclamen and jasmine, notes of fresh fruit and spicy notes. In the mouth, round, full of harmony and with a good structure and acidity, as well as very soft tannins that show excellent persistence overall. A wine of almost endless length, depth and with a distinct character that lingers in the memory. SUPERIORE.DE

"Powerful ruby with a fine garnet rim. Opens with notes of mint and ginger, juicy cherry, a little resinous in the background. Dense and compact on the palate, shows lots of fresh, red berry fruit, gripping tannin." Falstaff

"Aromas of forest floor, grilled herb, camphor and pipe tobacco mingle on the nose of this full-bodied red. The firm, elegantly structured palate offers juicy Marasca cherry, red currant, licorice and coffee bean. Tightly wound, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity grip the close and lend an ageworthy structure." Wine Enthusiast

"A tight, chewy red with plums and berries, together with orange-peel and dried-flower undertones. It's full with fine tannins and a long, floral finish. Very reserved now." James Suckling

"A mix of wild herb, Tuscan scrub, rose, cherry and earth flavors mark this sleek red, which tiptoes between elegance and power, with a layer of chalky tannins underlying it all. With air, the ripe cherry and plum fruit comes forward." Wine Spectator

"Delicately perfumed and finessed, the San Polo 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Podernovi is very floral and lifted in personality. This vintage is very different than the inaugural 2015 vintage. I remember the previous release for its darker and blacker quality of fruit. This cooler vintage is more lithe and lighthearted, with building aromatic intensity that unfolds with caution and care. Once you've had the wine in your glass, it reveals a succession of sour cherry, wild rose and fresh lavender bud. There are light mineral dustings as well, and the wine is ultimately quite solid and structured. This bodes well for its aging evolution. Fruit comes from a two-hectare parcel in a cool and high position some 450 meters above sea level. The soils are clayey with schistous Galestro." Robert Parker

Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2011 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Top-class, complex and modern Barolo from Serralunga: Elegant, complex bouquet of cherries and blueberries, the full-bodied taste is of considerable density and length, perfectly integrates the tannins. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling ruby with a garnet shimmer. Fine and fragrant nose, opens with notes of coriander and cinchona bark, then lots of rose petals, cherry and raspberry. Stoffig and full on the palate, opens with much hearty, present tannin, deep, present dark berry fruit, long reverberation, a late fuse!" Falstaff

"The 2011 Barolo Lazzarito is a landmark wine and one of the best expressions made region-wide in this challenging vintage. The bouquet is gorgeous thanks to the never-ending aromas of dark fruit, licorice and balsam herb that peel off the top. The Lazzarito vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba is characterized by thick soils and deep shifts between daytime and nighttime temperatures. These are important factors that lead to quality fruit despite the summer heat." Robert Parker

"The 2011 Barolo Lazzarito is fabulous in this vintage. Rich, ample and structured, the 2011 is both opulent and savory in style. Iron, plums, dark red cherries, smoke, licorice and tobacco meld together in a remarkably harmonious young Serralunga Barolo. This is the first year the Vietti Lazzarito includes a second recently acquired parcel, which may be one of the factors that influences quality, but at the same time, the Lazzarito has been the most improved Barolo in the range. All the elements come together in the 2011, a wine that has it all. This is a great showing from the Lazzarito. Best of all, readers won't have to wait forever to enjoy this beautiful, pedigreed Barolo." Antonio Galloni

Brunello di Montalcino “Podernovi” DOCG 2015 · 6 Bottles in OWC

One of the best vintages of the last twenty years and San Polo's first single vineyard Brunello. Ruby red colour, not too deep, with light garnet reflections. In the nose floral aromas of violet, cyclamen and jasmine, notes of fresh fruit and spice. In the mouth it is round, full of harmony, with good structure and acidity and very soft tannins, which show an excellent persistence overall. A wine of almost endless length, depth and with a distinct character that will be remembered. SUPERIORE.DE

"Intense, sparkling ruby with garnet edge. Very dense and inviting nose, notes of ripe plums, liquorice and dried porcini mushrooms. Fills out the palate, but shows not only fullness, but also a lot of juice and elegance, a very polished, elegant Brunello, long finish." Falstaff

"Firmly structured, this opens with aromas of underbrush, exotic spice and whiffs of eucalyptus oil. The firm palate evokes black-cherry extract, orange zest, licorice and tobacco set against assertive, close-grained tannins that leave a rather austere, drying finish. Give it time to fully unwind." Wine Enthusiast

"San Polo's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Podernovi is dark and earthy, with notes of moist soil, savory herbs, and minerals that wafting up from the glass. Mineral-encased ripe red fruits, propelled by vibrant acids with sweet spices and a hint of youthful tannin develop with air. The finish is long and buzzing with zesty acids and spice, along with a coating of fine tannin that tugs at the cheek. There’s a great blending of earth and fruit that makes the Podernovi quite attractive, yet a few years in the cellar should yield an even more balanced wine." Vinous

"The Poggio San Polo 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Podernovi offers great density and textural richness. I would say that this wine is most characterized by the quality of the mouthfeel that wraps smoothly and thickly over the palate. Dark cherry, tobacco, earth, plum and dark fruit add intensity and flavorful substance. The wine's full-bodied approach would match grilled meats or roasts." Robert Parker

"Lush and fruity, featuring plum, cherry, strawberry and iron aromas and flavors. Bright acidity and dense tannins form the structure as this plays out on the long finish. The excellent youthful balance shows promise for the future." Wine Spectator

"A dense and layered red with plum, cherry and chocolate character. Full body. Dense and ripe tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Shows layers of fruit and rich tannins. New and exciting wine from here. Try after 2022." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino “Poggio all’Oro” Riserva DOCG 2010 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Large Brunello riserva from the same vintage, beautifully balanced and with a classic spicy fragrance. In the taste typical blackberry and sour cherry aromas. Opulent and rich in extract, full and enveloping, with a powerful tannin density and plenty of stamina in the finals. SUPERIORE.DE

"Only made in the best vintages, this wine represents the pinnacle of Castello Banfi's quality production. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio All'Oro is a stunning achievement and will serve as a benchmark for this estate's future endeavors. The bouquet delivers both power and elegance with dried cherry, grilled herb and delicate layers of spice. This ensemble is seamless and balanced. The wine makes a statement without speaking in a loud voice and that's what I like best about this Brunello. In the mouth, this young wine offers a fresh fruit presentation that promises to evolve slowly. The solid tannic structure and the wine's fresh acidity will also contribute to its longevity." Robert Parker

"A riserva with so much structure and tension. A full body that shows dried fruit and mushroom flavors. Walnut soil, too. So long and powerful. A glorious wine. Wine for the long term." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino “Pianrosso Santa Caterina d’Oro” Riserva DOCG 2015 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Filled only in exceptional years, the single-vineyard Riserva Vigna di Pianrosso Santa Caterina d'Oro is a fine and delicate wine, endowed with great depth, perfectly balanced power and plenty of drive. Mocha, black cherry, smoke, licorice and dark, fleshy fruit are some of the signature notes of this extreme growth. Juicy and substantial on the attack, it gradually opens up with fine-meshed tannin and plenty of cherry, all the while displaying supreme elegance and describing a wide arc in its overall appearance. The 2015 edition is a particularly dark, profound Brunello, which will gain in tension and finesse during the deserved further maturation. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling medium dense garnet red. Opens with notes of pickled cherries and black nuts, fine plum. Builds up firm pressure on the palate, grippy, savoury tannin, plus plenty of sweet melting, then seems a little rough and slightly alcoholic on the final." Falstaff

"The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna di Pianrosso Santa Caterina d'Oro is a fine and delicate wine that cleverly delivers the intensity of the vintage but without the heaviness or the ripeness. This wine holds back, just enough, to affirm its poised balance in terms of fruit richness, texture and tannic structure. It shows symmetry throughout. Dark cherry fruit, cassis, plum, lavender and campfire ash set the tone. The mouthfeel is thickly woven and generous." Robert Parker

"There’s a bright edge to this red, harnessing the cherry, strawberry, rosehip, mineral and tobacco flavors that build on the palate to a long finish. Displays terrific energy and balance, with an aftertaste that echoes both fruit and savory elements." Wine Spectator

"The opulence of fruit and complexity of earth, meat, mushroom and cedar is breathtaking. It’s full-bodied, deep and powerful with so much intensity and depth. Chewy and layered, it goes on for minutes. Give it even more time." James Suckling

    • "Camarcanda" Bolgheri DOC 2016
6 Bottles in OWC

“Camarcanda” Bolgheri DOC 2016 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Camarcanda is a rich Bolgheri Rosso with dark bouquet of black fruits, espresso, chocolate, liquorice and tar. On the palate it is extremely full-bodied, with excellent depth, dense structure and firm body. Opulent and long, this wine already shows a wide range of its personality. SUPERIORE.DE

" Opened with delicate cassis and herbal aromas; powerful yet elegant texture with stocky tannins, invigorating acidity, lots of grinding, juice and length, pleases with its fine peppery fruit finale. Gajas Bolgheri interpretation combines cut and fullness". Vinum

"Bright, intense ruby red with a violet tint. Finely drawn nose with notes of red and black currant, fresh, then dark cherry and spices. Round and smooth on the palate, shows a lot of present fruit, opens with fine-meshed tannin, juicy and long, very precise." Falstaff

"Austere in aroma, this red reveals intense flavors of cherry, raspberry, rose and mineral. Firmly structured, yet stays on course with a laser of fruit. Vanilla and toast notes chime in on the finish. Fine balance, length and complexity." Wine Spectator

"The 2016 Camarcanda is pretty, open-knit and gracious in its bouquet, although there is a good bit of Cabernet tannin underpinning the dark fruit. Hints of chocolate, mint, sage, tobacco, licorice and blackberry develop in the glass. The 2016 needs a few years to soften, but it is undeniably attractive and inviting. It's hard to say if it is the vintage, or if the style here has moved towards a bit more freshness as it has at Gaja in Piedmont, but the 2016 Camarcanda does seem to have an extra kick of vibrancy over some previous editions. I can't wait to taste it with some bottle age." Vinous

"Fragrant florals punctuate the nose, ranging from lavender to hyacinth, and there are hints of heather and thyme, too. Citrusy undertones abound. There’s a profundity to the center palate, which is decked out in sheets of dark fruit-flavored, muscular tannins that retain a telltale elegance, as they envelop the peripheries of the mouth. Long and mineral, this is a delightful wine now and will continue to open up as the years go by." James Suckling

"The 2016 Bolgheri Rosso Camarcanda is infinitely smooth and finely textured down to the very last pixel in what is a high-resolution panoramic photograph. The core of the wine is packed tight with an explosion of flavor and concentration with so much dark fruit, spice, tobacco and sweet tobacco that unfurls from deep inside. This wine will have a long and, I am quite sure, very happy aging future ahead. It shows utmost precision and balance, with long persistence and a beautifully polished texture." Robert Parker

    • Barolo Brunate DOCG 2011
6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo Brunate DOCG 2011 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo Brunate is a generous, full-bodied wine with feminine aromas of sweet berries and milk chocolate, very balsamic and round. The taste flows with a lot of fruit, beautiful intensity and great openness. Firmly structured with silky tannins, elegant and fresh finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2011 Barolo Brunate is a wine of enormous pedigree, although it does not fully reach the aspiring heights of the 2010 and 2009 vintages immediately before it. Those wines set the bar so high, you need to settle for this wine that is a masterpiece in its own right. It offers deep, dark intensity with generous tones of ripe fruit, blackberry and red currant. Background notes of rosemary, cherry cola and licorice add vitality and focus. There is a subtle touch of softness in the mouth that is followed by firm tannins." Robert Parker

"A dark, exotic Barolo, the 2011 Brunate boasts tons of density and volume. Black cherry, plum, spice, licorice, new leather and menthol are some of the many nuances that flesh out in the glass. Ultimately, though, the 2011 is largely defined by the texture and amplitude of the year." Antonio Galloni

"A beautiful purity of fruit to this young Barolo with ripe strawberries, citrus, flowers and spice. Full body, integrated tannins and a long finish. Need another two or three years to soften." James Suckling

"Smooth and harmonious, featuring cherry, licorice, tar and underbrush flavors. The tannins are present yet integrated. Fresh and long on the finish." Wine Spectator

    • Barolo Ravera DOCG 2011
6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo Ravera DOCG 2011 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo Ravera represents the more traditional style of winemaking at Vietti. Graphite and iron aromas, with fruity sweet notes of cherry and raspberry, leather and black tea. Intense fruit with complex structure and beautifully interwoven tannin. Powerful and exceptionally stylish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, intense ruby garnet. Fine nose with notes of raspberry and dark roses, flint and truffle in the background. On the palate very present, shows much fruit, at the same time fine-meshed, dense tannin, which still tolerates some storage, has very good potential, long finish." Falstaff

"The 2011 Barolo Ravera opens to a pretty garnet color and dark ruby luminosity. The wine delivers tight concentration and a fine texture that adheres closely to the palate. Blackberry, cassis, spice, leather and tobacco emerge from the glass. Barolo Ravera also offers an earthy tone of white truffle or porcino mushroom. Soft oak density and thick fruit extract give the wine beautiful, full-bodied appeal. Give it ten more years of cellar aging to lose the baby fat." Robert Parker

"The 2011 Barolo Ravera is once again the most vibrant and nuanced of the Vietti Barolos. Freshly cut flowers, crushed rocks, mint and bright red stone fruits are all shaped by a very classic sense of mineral-inflected drive that is such a Ravera signature. The 2011 is a more than worthy follow up to the epic 2010. It's great to see this high-altitude district in Novello finally getting its due." Antonio Galloni

"Cherry and plum flavors permeate this rich, powerful red. Accented by menthol and leather, this is balanced and fresh, with a lingering aftertaste of mineral and tobacco." Wine Spectator

"Engaging scents of wild berry, rose petal, aromatic herb and spice lead the nose. The full-bodied palate slowly reveals red cherry, anise, black pepper, clove and tobacco framed in assertive tannins and bright acidity. Give this time to fully open and develop." Wine Enthusiast

    • "Vigna Grande Cerzito" Taurasi Riserva DOCG 2016
6 Bottles in OWC

“Vigna Grande Cerzito” Taurasi Riserva DOCG 2016 · 6 Bottles in OWC

On the full bouquet we find ripe dark fruits complemented by spiced orange, sage and mint with a hint of green olive. On the palate, velvety textures are contrasted by cooling acids, while polished black fruits wash over the senses, leaving a mix of salty minerals and fine tannin, with a hint of violet flowers resonating. The finish is long, packed with masses of ripe blackberries, plums and sweet herbal tones, but also perfectly structured and, for all its youthfulness, very balanced and harmonious. Luigi Moio and his team have interpreted this vintage brilliantly and once again set the standard with this year's edition of the single-vineyard Aglianico. SUPERIORE.DE

    • Brunello di Montalcino "Rennina" DOCG 2015
6 Bottles in OWC

Brunello di Montalcino “Rennina” DOCG 2015 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Rennina 2015 builds up on the palate in several layers: sensual fruit, paired with multi-layered impressions of forest soil, spices and tanned leather. On the palate it is soft and yet powerful, yet balanced, with an impeccable structure, underpinned by harmonious acidity, and with an extract sweet, almost feminine finish. Very appealing and a perfect reflection of a perfect vintage with the corresponding potential for the next decade. SUPERIORE.DE

"Astringent, firmly knitted, somewhat dried vegetable to tobacco and a little woody aroma of ripe, partly preserved black and red berries with a little dried herbs, plums, minerality and almost fleshy tones. Very firm in the mouth, ripe, juicy berry and cherry fruit, very slightly plummy tones, nutty and moderately woody tones, a little tobacco and tar, present, ripe, still very youthful tannin, dense and persistent on the palate, deep, multi-layered, yet hardly developed, restrained power, a little cocoa and pepper in the background, much melting, but also grip, compact build, very good to long, firm, tart finish with salty and smoky tones." Wein-Plus

"lush ruby with a slight garnet tinge. Rich and intense nose of plums and blackberries, some liquorice. Deep and powerful at the beginning, opens with present, dense tannin, in the final firm pressure." Falstaff

"Tasted blind. Deep ruby with bright orange tinges. Subdued, brooding, perfumed dark fruit with hints of pine. Eye-catching sweet-sour cherry fruit and juicy acidity with the tannins adding considerable muscle." Jancis Robinson

"The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Rennina is dark and powerful in the glass, slowly opening with a display of crushed stone, cedar, mint, and a dusting of cumin, as its dark red fruits begin to unfurl in a captivating display. On the palate, silky textures offset tart cherry and blackberry fruits, balanced by a core of rounded tannins and lifting acidity, as hints of licorice and sweet herbal tones develope. The finish is medium in length and poised, showing fine-grain tannins beneath a sheen of polished red and black fruits, with hints of lavender lingering on. The 2015 Rennina is a classy wine that’s just begging for a few years in the cellar to fully blossom." Vinous

"Aromatic, evoking wild herb and balsamic notes of juniper, thyme and pine, along with flavors of black cherry, plum and iron. Firmly structured and fresh, offering a long, complex aftertaste. Unfolds pleasantly and maintains balance." Wine Spectator

"The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Rennina is beautifully balanced and elegant. The wine is successfully streamlined and focused on the nuanced characteristics of the otherwise warm and sunny 2015 vintage. Rennina is often considered to be the more lithe and graceful of Gaja's two Brunellos. The bouquet opens to pretty berry nuances, blue flower, lavender, grilled herb and powdery licorice. Despite the more delicate approach, Rennina delivers ample power in the mouth with fresh acidity and tight tannins. I'd suggest opening this bottle at the 10-year mark." Robert Parker

"Extremely perfumed and pretty with dried berry, orange peel and fruit tea on the nose. Full-bodied, extremely tight and refined with superb tannin quality that shows polish, finesse and beauty. It goes on for minutes on the palate. One for the cellar. Best wine ever from here. Needs three or four years to come together." James Suckling
