• Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016 (BIO)
MAGNUM in OWC

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC

The 2016 edition of Col d'Orcia's Brunello di Montalcino is visually stunning with its brilliant ruby colour in the glass and beguiles the nose with a cornucopia of crushed black cherries with hints of brown spices and sage - finessed by notes of white smoke, cedar and dried roses. On the palate, it is seductive and supple; sweet red fruits are contrasted by fresh and lively acidity and zesty spice, and its finely woven tannins slowly rise towards the finish. The finish is long, structured and very well balanced with an echo of tart wild berries, a hint of red liquorice and pretty flowers. It is already a beautiful wine, but the patient connoisseur will give it a few more years in the cellar. SUPERIORE.DE

"Nobly shining ruby red. In the nose of fresh raspberries and fresh cherries, then lightly of mint and sage, paired with noble spice reverberation. Juicy and clear on the palate, opens on fresh fruit with supportive tannin, lively and polished, still young, drinks very well." Falstaff

"A very polished, refined red with berry and flower aromas, as well as hints of citrus and rose petals. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a juicy finish. Lovely polish. Give it a year or two to come around, but already very pretty." James Suckling

"This shows dark fruit and spice, while there's an extra layer of leather or cigar ash at the back. This wine is made with organic fruit. It displays a mid-weight mouthfeel with tight tannins and lively acidity, the kind that will cut through your favorite steak dinner." Robert Parker

"Underbrush, wild-berry, pipe-tobacco and violet aromas lead the nose. On the full-bodied palate, taut tannins support black cherry, licorice and ground clove." Wine Enthusiast

"This starts off as its usual youthfully reductive self, but with plenty of air it displays appealing perfumes of iris, violet and plum. Midweight and elegant, it seems to defy the generous warmth of the estate's southwestern site. Nevertheless, layers of dark fruit wrap around the tight, flinty core while dry, powdery tannins give ample support. The finish lingers with spice and garrigue. I suspect this will age slowly and handsomely." Decanter

"An earthy, meaty version, sporting black cherry, plum, raw beef, iron and bouillon aromas and flavors. The fruit element intensifies on the palate, playing out on a long finish that is balanced and fresh, showing dusty tannins." Wine Spectator

"Dusty earth gives way to dried roses, incense, hints of cedar, sage, currants and black cherries in a display that makes the 2016 Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino a very special experience. It's nuanced and perfumed from start to finish, boasting silky textures contrasted by tart berries and minerals, but with sweet tannins that frame the expression perfectly. Its inner sweetness is balanced by bright acids, creating an almost-juicy sensation, right up until the moment you realize that your palate is aching with youthful tension. There's so much going on and much more to come, making me wonder what the Poggio al Vento might offer in the 2016 vintage. For now, that doesn't even matter, because the 2015 Col d'Orcia impresses on nearly every level." Vinous

“Mediterra” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Mediterra with inviting aromas of bell pepper, red currant, sage and black pepper is round and harmonious on the palate with beautiful fruit and spice, a perfect food companion. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright ruby garnet. In the nose in the first attack slightly grassy, then after raspberries and gooseberries, white pepper, in the reverberation after black currant, needs some air to settle down. On the palate punchy and with clear fruit, stretches slightly spicy over the tongue, nice body." Falstaff

"The 2018 Mediterra is Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (in almost equal parts with just a little more emphasis on the richness of the Syrah). This is a versatile and very well priced Tuscan red that prizes softness, the richness of its mouthfeel and the ripeness of its blackberry and cherry aromas. Those warm fruit tones cede to mild spice, light tobacco and tilled earth. The wine is bright, bold and charming in thanks to its accessible style." Robert Parker

"The 2018 Mediterra, Poggio al Tesoro’s entry-level wine, is terrific. Fruit, floral and enticing, this mid-weight offering has plenty to give. I would prefer to drink it over the next few years, while the flavors remain vibrant. A burst of red berry fruit, blood orange and spice lingers on the mid-weight finish." Vinous

    • "La Crena" Barbera d'Asti DOCG 2018
MAGNUM in OWC

“La Crena” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC

The extremely complex Barbera d'Asti La Crena comes from vines up to 90 years old in the heart of the Nizza Monferrato region and smells of ripe red fruits, hay and pastries. The full-bodied, warm taste lingers long with plenty of dark fruit, well-proportioned acidity and fine cocoa tones. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Vietti 2018 Barbera d'Asti La Crena sees its fruit sourced from very old vines with some of the plants approaching the 100-year-old mark. This is a rich and darkly concentrated wine with a lovely bouquet that is lifted and bright. The wine reveals dark cherry fruit, raw blackberry and plum. That opulent, old-vine fruit drowns out much of the acidic sharpness of the grape." Robert Parker

This spontaneously fermented Lugana from the Sansonina winery is a masterpiece with its broad aroma of exotic fruits. On the palate, in addition to the intense fruit, there is enough room for a fine minerality and freshness. It is undisputedly one of the most serious Lugana we know. SUPERIORE.DE

"A bed of clean, dry mineral serves as a base for the aromas of white peaches, lemon curd and white meadow flowers that build up on the nose, then blend together on the medium-to full-bodied palate to produce a rich, spicy and super tasty core of fruit that has staying power. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2017 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Brilliant ruby red with a slightly lightening rim. Impressive scent of red berries, smoke and dark spices. Taut, straightforward, expressive and of beautiful length on the palate. Boscarelli's Nobile di Montepulciano is a wonderfully precise example of its growing zone. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2017 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano offers a classic expression of this celebrated Tuscan appellation. The hot-vintage fruit is dark, ripe and fragrant. Aromas of black cherry, plum and toasted almond lift from the bouquet. This mid-weight wine offers a good level of refreshing acidity with an open-knit approach and some dusty tannins on the close. If you have a bottle, the wine is ready to drink straight out of the gate." Robert Parker

"The 2017 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Readers will find a wine that offers plenty of Vino Nobile depth, but in a mid-weight style that makes it accessible. Bright red cherry, dried flowers, mint and white pepper add a brilliant upper register to the red Sangiovese fruit." Vinous

"Polished and savory, this medium-bodied red opens with aromas of camphor, wild berry and new leather. On the linear palate, taut tannins accompany juicy Marasca cherry and licorice." Wine Enthusiast

"A big, juicy Nobile with cherries, walnuts, chocolate and spice. It's full-bodied, chewy and layered. Lots of tannins, yet it shows intensity and energy. Give this a year or two, but impressive now." James Suckling

“Polissena” Sangiovese Valdarno di Sopra DOC 2017 (BIO) · 6 Bottles in OWC

Polissena shows the typical handwriting of Il Borro: The wines are vinified as typical for the grape variety as possible and therefore come - especially recognizable here with Sangiovese - as authentic as possible into the glass. In the nose fine cherry aroma with hints of wild berries, forest floor and some plum. In the drink then the typical acidity paired with a delicate fruit, a firm core and a taut final. The 12-month aging in used and almost neutral barriques suits the freshness and straightness of the Polissena very well. Great drinking pleasure! SUPERIORE.DE

"Wild herbs, crushed cherry, blackberry, cedar spice box, hints of damp earth and leather tones create a classic display on the 2017 Valdarno di Sopra Petruna Vigna Polissena. On the palate, silky textures are contrasted by tart red fruits with crunchy minerality, creating a cascading effect, as masses of inner violet florals form. The finish is long, full of youthful tension but also energetic, as fine tannins coat the senses, offset by a solid core of primary fruit, promising years of development." Vinous

"This wine now boasts an appellation identity (previous editions were labeled as IGT Toscana). The newly minted Il Borro 2017 Valdarno di Sopra Sangiovese Vigna Polissena opens to a pretty ruby color and imparts bright berry aromas with tart raspberry and wild cherry. You might also detect a very Mediterranean note of rosemary or lavender essence, and there are faint mineral notes on the close. This is a great choice for your favorite pastas topped with a meat and tomato sauce." Robert Parker

"A really refined sangiovese with cherries, strawberries and some citrus undertones. Hints of walnuts, too. Full-bodied with round, creamy tannins that are so beautiful and soft. The texture is exceptional. From organically grown grapes from a beautiful single vineyard. Better in 2022, but already a beauty." James Suckling

“Poggiassai” Rosso Toscana IGT 2015 · 6 Bottles in OWC

In the bouquet noble, typically Tuscan notes of cherries, blackberries, violets and spices. Exceptionally complex, multilayered and excellently structured on the palate. Gripping tannins, intense fruit and pleasant acidity are already in perfect harmony. The drinking pleasure builds nicely and increases in the long final. For us, it has been the attractive alternative to Antinori's famous Tignanello for years. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dark garnet. Spicy nose, animal, chalky, tar and resin, dark fruit. Pithy and compact on the medium-bodied palate, great juiciness, spicy, with persistence." Falstaff

"The 2015 Poggiassai is a dark and generous blend with lots of rich fruit and energy on the bouquet. The mouthfeel is a bit more moderate than the Chianti Classico Riserva, but all that delicious power of the bouquet gives you a lot to contemplate. This would be a good one to serve with aged and aromatic cheeses." Robert Parker

"I love the intensity to this with dark cherries, nutmeg, licorice, vanilla and walnuts. Full-bodied and decadent, yet the acidity steers the ripe fruit through to a mineral, tangy finish that’s long and chewy. Best ever from here." James Suckling

“Pelago” Rosso Marche IGT 2016 · 6 Bottles in OWC

The rich garnet-red shining Pelago in Riserva quality from Cabernet Sauvignon, Montepulciano and small parts of Merlot shows a ravishing scent of raspberries, a noble spiciness and a hearty, juicy and very long taste. SUPERIORE.DE

"Aromas of sour cherries, currants, olives, cloves and rosemary. It's medium-bodied with firm, fine tannins and fresh acidity. Savory and juicy finish." James Suckling

"Complex nose with cedar, spices, forest fruit. Muscular tannins on the palate match jammy fruit, black olive notes." Decanter

"This wine is now celebrating its 22nd harvest. The Umani Ronchi 2016 Pelago is a blend of Montepulciano, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot aged in French oak for 14 months. This is a wine with a deep core of dark fruit and a lot of stuffing that adds textural fiber and richness. Pelago shows a downright contemporary style that is expressed in terms of volume, softness and phenolic weight (or sheer grape concentration). This is a super Marche wine from start to finish, with black cherry, blackberry, soft spice, leather and tar. The 2016 vintage is especially rich and important. When you're ready to open it, sample it with wedges of an aged goat-milk caciotta." Robert Parker

    • Radici Taurasi DOCG 2012
6 Bottles in OWC

Radici Taurasi DOCG 2012 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Still a bit angular and rustic in its early years, the 2012 will now - after several years of deserved bottle maturity - reveal the true potential of a Radici Taurasi. Opulent, warm bouquet of cherries and black berries, along with spicy and wild herbal notes. On the palate it is finely woven, elegant and enveloping silky, the fullness and complexity of this Aglianico inspires more with every sip. Even if it can mature for many years, it is already an unforgettable pleasure. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2012 Taurasi Radici is still in the process of integrating. Under that sweet spice and toast, you definitely get a clear glimpse of the pretty fruit below. Morello cherry and dried blackberry give substance and fiber to the core of this robust red wine." Robert Parker

"Black-walnut, blackberry and black-olive aromas follow through to a full body, round and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Very rich and intense." James Suckling

"Underbrush, red fruit, dark spice and a whiff of menthol are some of the aromas that come together on this. The firmly structured elegant palate offers ripe plum, red cherry, licorice and tobacco framed in youthfully austere fine-grained tannins that need time to unwind." Wine Enthusiast

"Lovely hints of spice box, graphite and violet accent the pure black currant and black cherry fruit in this harmonious, full-bodied red. There's good density to this focused version, with savory wild herb and tarry mineral details showing on the creamy, lingering finish." Wine Spectator

    • Radici Taurasi DOCG 2015
6 Bottles in OWC

Radici Taurasi DOCG 2015 · 6 Bottles in OWC

A very special wine made from overripe and strictly selected Aglianico grapes, which grow on Mastroberardino's south facing vineyards. The Taurasi is aged in oak barrels for two years and rests in the bottle for one year. A wine with a fascinating personality, strength and a very high storage potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"Mid ruby. Grilled meat, nutty spice and smoke, with overripe red-cherry fruit beneath. Focused, ripe red-cherry fruit on the palate, with precision of fine-grained, fairly firm tannins. Precise, direct and linear, but by no means simple, carrying smoky, saline, rocky mineral savoury layers. Long. Classy." Jancis Robinson

"Fresh and focused, this elegant, medium- to full-bodied version features plush tannins married to ripe cherry and raspberry fruit. A subtle underpinning of loamy earth and an aromatic skein of saffron and spice unravels on the long finish." Wine Spectator

"Fully saturated ruby. Aromas of woodsy underbrush and red cherry, plus a dusting of crushed stones and red flowers. Refined and perfectly balanced on the palate, conveying a seamless quality to the dark and red fruit flavors. Finishes very pure and long with mineral accents. Lovely." Vinous

"The Mastroberardino 2015 Taurasi Radici is a dark and savory wine with thickly stacked aromas of black fruit, tar, licorice and campfire ash. This is a baritone Taurasi from a warm and sunny vintage that boasts concentrated and rich flavors as a result. Despite the evident power you get here, Taurasi has a beautiful manner of staying focused and sharp nonetheless. This wine demonstrates that quality very nicely." Robert Parker

"I love the spicy and lifted notes here of caramelized orange peel, dried meat, blackcurrants, pomegranate, sea urchin and bark. A seamless and wonderfully elegant, medium-bodied palate follows with finely grained tannins and loads of floral undertones. This wine is all about transparency and subtlety. Best Radici in years." “Vigna San Michele” Barthenau Pinot Bianco Alto Adige DOC 2018 · 6 Bottles in OWC

The Pinot Bianco from the single vineyard San Michele of the Barthenau Winery has a strong personality, which fully develops after an additional year of bottle ripening. In the rich bouquet green apple and banana, full-bodied and with lots of fruit the taste, in addition a medium, finely balanced acidity and a long mineral finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Barthenau Vigna S. Michele Pinot Bianco from J. Hofstatter is deep, rich and utterly classic. It lifts up from the glass with a dramatic display of dried peaches and apple, offset by zests of lemon, yellow flowers, hints of almond and hazelnut. There’s a sweetness here that strikes a chord, as suddenly a wave of brisk acid brings balance, leaving a coating of silky textures and ripe white orchard fruit. Hints of honey and inner florals linger over a mineral twang that lasts for up to a minute. It’s a large-scaled wine, yet maintains its posture perfectly." Vinous

"The 2016 Taurasi Radici is an elegant, feminine beauty that's geared for many years of development in the cellar, showing an alluring, dark, and earthy expression up front, which blossoms into a display of citrus-tinged blackberries, rosy florals, and a hint of animal musk. It coats the palate in silky richness, ushering in polished black fruits, offset by cooling herbal and mineral tones, as round tannins slowly emerge. The finish is long, youthfully poised, and structured, staining the senses in dark fruits, along with hints of spiced citrus and crushed violets.
