“Lavinia Maria” Cabernet Toscana IGT 2011 · 0,75l in OWC

The youngest scion of this exceptional winery is a pure Cabernet Franc: intense fruity bouquet of blackberry and blackcurrant, spicy notes such as black pepper, laurel and nutmeg, with elegant ethereal notes. Full, smooth and harmonious on the palate, the tannins silky-sweet, generous and long-lasting. The finale is reminiscent of a fresh sea breeze. Exquisite! SUPERIORE.DE

"Deep dark, rich ruby violet. Very compact nose with intense dark berry fruit, hints of blackberries and blueberries, underlaid with rich liquorice. Fine-grained tannin present on the palate, builds up in many layers, in the aftertaste full of liquorice and plums, blooms again after a longer aeration." Falstaff

"Dense, with black cherry, black currant, sweet spice and licorice flavors, this red is vibrant and harmonious. The tannins are thickset, yet civilized and integrated with the texture. Monolithic now, so be patient." Wine Spectator

"Exotic blueberry with inky concentration and graphite, espresso and gravel. Well-endowed but stylish tannins. Truly exceptional." James Suckling

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2012

Young and fresh, rich ruby garnet, complex, very aromatic bouquet, strong tannin, lots of fruit, fine melt, cleanly structured, harmoniously balanced, long finish. Store it as best you can and enjoy the anticipation! SUPERIORE.DE

"Velvety, rich ruby. Very present and fresh nose, full of plums, raspberries and cranberries, appealing. Very juicy at the base, opens with fine, dense tannin, beautiful enamel, spreads for a long time, firm pressure in the finale". Falstaff

"The 2012 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is one of the bigger, richer wines in the lineup, which is a bit atypical. Readers should expect a huge, dramatic Rocche built on power, intensity and volume. At the same time, the Rocche is incredibly precise and layered. It is that very interplay of richness and finesse that makes the Rocche so alluring. Rose petal, mint and sweet red berries build to a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures that takes over all the senses." Antonio Galloni

"Wow. The rose petal aroma is gorgeous with ripe strawberry and cherry undertones. Full body, dense and powerful. Chewy and rich tannins. Lasts for minutes on the palate." James Suckling

    • "Palazzi" Rosso Toscana IGT 2018

      “Palazzi” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018

Andrea Franchetti began positioning Palazzi as an equal red alongside his flagship Tenuta di Trinoro in the 1990s, with the aim of producing two exceptional wines that evoke the left and right banks of Bordeaux.

Palazzi represents the Merlot grape variety at its best, with soft, supple fruit enlivened and buoyed by intense minerality. The wine comes from a selection of older Merlot vines covering about five to seven hectares. Several months in new barrels add the appropriate complexity, making the wine approachable and enjoyable. This wine is elegantly structured and has terrificageing potential. Vinified in small quantities - just 2,900 bottles are produced each year - it is one of the best Merlots in Italy, and not just for us. SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich, dense ruby with a fine garnet shimmer. Open nose with lots of ripe fruit of plums, cedar and liquorice. Very dense on the palate, fills the mouth richly, lots of sweet fruit, some drying tannin in the back." Falstaff

"The 2018 Palazzi, 100% Merlot, is plush, silky and so inviting. Like all of these wines, the Palazzi is quite overt, and yet all the elements come together so well. Dark raspberry fruit, chocolate, spice, leather, licorice all flesh out in the glass. Flamboyant and exotically ripe, Palazzi is a quintessential wine from Tenuta di Trinoro." Vinous

"During the 2018 vintage a strange wind and drop in temperature arrived in the Orcia Valley, thus Palazzi should be considered of a cooler vintage. 'In the last days of summer, we were dizzy with the silver of the new moon. From the 21st, there was a sudden density in the Merlot: the astronomy signaling. This variety is showing dark and soft, and we began bringing in twenty tons of grape a day. The juice was low in alcohol, high in acidity, rich in taste - complex Merlots, reminding one of Saint-Emilion,' said Andrea Franchetti. Dark and plummy, with precise fruit and clean leathery notes, full of floral layers and buttery sweetness at core, it will age developing balsamic notes now whispered. The tannin shows a great progression on the palate with noble extraction and an almost crisp mineral finish." Decanter

"The Tenuta di Trinoro 2018 Palazzi is a pure expression of Merlot that boasts seamless power, intensity and concentration. You are treated to a full-throttle expression from Tuscany that exudes generous black fruit, spice and sweet tobacco. Black cherry and plum give the wine soft contours and sweetness. Palazzi sees 15 days of fermentation on the skins and is racked into new barrels for eight months of aging. It is then put into cement for a final 10 months of rest. To the palate, the wine is structured and concentrated, suggesting a pairing with a succulent cut of red meat marinated in rosemary and olive oil. What a beautiful treat." Robert Parker

    • "Terlaner I" Grande Cuvée Alto Adige DOC 2017

“Terlaner I” Grande Cuvée Alto Adige DOC 2017

Terlaner I (pronounced Primo) Grande Cuvée is the name of the white flagship of Cantina Terlano. In the past few years, the winery has made a name for itself worldwide with its long-lived, mineral white wines. Even after years, the wines present themselves in top freshness and with great complexity. With this long white wine history, there is now, since vintage 2011, a wine in which the essence of Terlan is expressed in an even more focused way. In Terlaner I Grande Cuvée, the grape varieties Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon from the Winkl, Kreuth and Vorberg vineyards are united to a masterpiece, which, due to its limitation and exclusivity, will only be available at hand-picked retailers and in selected top restaurants.

Brilliant straw yellow. Rich and complex on the nose with aromas of citrus, white pepper and herbs and a delicate smoky note. Remarkable structure and refined texture, which give it finesse, elegance and a distinctive character. The exceptionally long and salty finish is endlessly memorable as an expression of a mineral terroir unique in the world. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant straw yellow with subtle green. Opens with subtle smoky notes, after cool stones, then tree-fresh apple, some apricot and pineapple to it. Starts off terrific on the palate, lots of crisp mirabelle fruit, some banana, very deep, saline and with a long finish, a long distance runner." Falstaff

"The 2017 Terlaner Grande Cuvée Primo is rich and seductive from the first tilt of the glass. It displays a mix of roasted hazelnut, baked apple and dried peaches, as it gains further complexities through evolving notes of smoky minerals, chamomile and hints of honeysuckle. The textural depths on the palate are otherworldly, seemingly weighty yet precise, enveloping all it touches in velvety waves of ripe stone fruits and sweet spice, as juicy acids sneak in, both framing and balancing the wine. The finish is remarkably long yet fresh, teeming with energy while also showing hints of vanilla and toasty oak. The Terlano wines have a track record for evolving beautifully in the cellar." Vinous

"Cooked-apple, clove, light toffee and smoked-wood aromas follow through to a full body with layers of fruit and nice phenolics that give it a creamy, almost chewy structure. Flavorful and intense. Smoky at the end with licorice and fennel-seed undertones." James Suckling

"Magnificent graceful mix of seasoned oak, rich fruit and rosemary scents. Luscious ripe and intense green fruited palate with a kaleidoscope of mineral, floral and herbal notes; poised, rich and defined by glorious underpinning acidity." Decanter

“Terlaner I” Grande Cuvée Alto Adige DOC 2013

Terlaner I (pronounced: Primo) Grande Cuvée is the white flagship of the Cantina Terlano. In recent years, the winery has made a name for itself worldwide with its long-lived, mineral white wines. The wines still present themselves after years in top freshness and with great complexity. With this long white wine history there is now since vintage 2011 a wine in which the essence of Terlan is expressed even more focused. Bright straw yellow, impressive fresh and varied bouquet of apricot and yeast pastry with herb notes of chamomile, lemon balm and lovage. On the palate smooth and creamy soft with a strong, still youthful acid structure and mineral tension. Silky and elegant in an almost infinitely long reverberation. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling, rich straw yellow with green nuances. Playful and dense, it shows a lot of rich fruit, like mirabelle plums and apricots, followed by slightly smoky notes, like flintstone. Creamy and round on the palate, full-bodied, fine sweet melting, fine mineral play give the wine complexity, long finish." Falstaff

"Dense yellow with a golden shimmer. Very clearly drawn bouquet with fine yellow fruit, some melon, pear, there is a lot of Weissburgunder music in it. Dense and melty mouthfeel, the tension brings the mineral, juicy texture, which gets further emphasis by the present acidity, very clear and with impressive length! It's got juice and power." Weinwisser

"The Cantina Terlano 2013 Alto Adige Terlaner I Grande Cuvée is a quest for white wine perfection. The blend is 90% Pinot Bianco with 7% Chardonnay and 3% Sauvignon Blanc. It is fermented in large oak casks and then ages on the lees in oak for one year. This elaborate approach has shaped a fine and elegant bouquet with seamless integration. Stone fruit, citrus, toasted almond and Golden Delicious apple find impeccable balance. The wine boasts a creamy and rich textural personality. Cantina Terlano has a proven track record in terms of the aging potential of its excellent Pinot Bianco-based wines." Robert Parker

"The 2013 Terlaner I (Primo) Grande Cuvée is the most recent release of Terlano new prestige cuvée, which is meant to evoke memories of the epic wines from the 1950s and 1960s. The 2013 certainly hits all the right notes. Intensely mineral on the outset, the 2013 possesses striking aromatics and layers of finely sculpted fruit, not to mention tremendous overall balance. All the elements fall into place in this effortless, gracious Terlano. Graphite, lemon confit, mint, sage and chamomile wrap around the succulent finish. This is a jewel of a wine from Terlano." VINOUS

"A wine with delicious fruit with dried pear and pineapple aromas and flavors. Full body, dense and flavorful. Big and rich wine that remains fresh and agile. Bitter lemon. undertone. One of the top wines of Alto Adige." James Suckling

Lots of tension on the palate, fine fresh pineapple fruit, some white flowers, vibrant, lots of fruit melting, paired with mineral components that give depth, resonates very long." Falstaff

"Seductive aromas of subtle toasty oak, vanilla and butterscotch lead to a rich, textured palate dressed in luscious honeyed fruit and spice." Decanter

"Still very young, the toasty and leesy notes still a shade dominant, but with aeration an exceptionally wide spectrum of aromas emerge, from gentian root to exotic fruit via candid citrus. Stunning concentration and minerality that makes you sit up straight and pay attention! Super long and vibrant finish that has enough energy to carry this forward for decades." James Suckling

"This is the top-shelf wine from Cantina Terlano, to say the least. It's a careful blend of 65% Pinot Bianco, 32% Chardonnay and 3% Sauvignon Blanc. The 2018 Alto Adige Terlaner Grand Cuvée Primo shows ripeness, but the fruit is plush, rich and beautiful. It's an intricate portrait of these three grapes, with brushes of grapefruit and Indian jasmine, or Turkish soap you might buy at an Istanbul bazaar. There is a very citrusy side to the wine with that grapefruit note and the perfumed skin of the citron fruit they call "cedro" in Italian. All in all, this wine is super rich with generous fruit weight and concentration. Cantina Terlano does its best work in terms of texture, mouthfeel and richness, and this release of 3,330 bottles is their masterpiece." Robert Parker

“Roccolo” Ludwig Barth von Barthenau Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC 2015 · 0,75l in OWC

At the end of the 19th century, Ludwig Barth, a university professor with a love of wine, had built the estate of the same name in Mazon and planted the Pinot Noir vine there for the first time, with success, as it turned out. The year 2012 was very good for the Pinot Noir and for the Roccolo vineyard at the Barthenau estate on the Mazon plateau. Particularly rich grapes from vines that are over 70 years old and climb on the traditional pergola should be reserved for a new top wine. They were harvested separately, pressed separately and matured in small oak barrels and are only used in the best vintages to produce the single vineyard wine "Roccolo".

It convinces with its smooth, filigree acid structure, the backbone of every Burgundy. Martin Foradori's "Burgundy instinct" had shown him the right way, working until late in the evening had been worthwhile. A first-class Pinot Noir now enriches the estate's Pinot Noir range - from the excellent location of the Mazon plateau. SUPERIORE.DE

    • Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2013

Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2013

The grapes for this exceptional Chianti Classico come from vines growing southwest at an altitude between 350 and 480 metres above sea level. The soil here is characterized by Galestro and limestone. Complex aromas of plum, black cherry, spices and menthol. Complex on the palate with a richness of facets and a taste profile that only gradually opens up and reveals its entire spectrum only to the patient. A parade wine of great depth, class and irresistibility. SUPERIORE.DE

"Full, deep dark ruby, velvety shimmer. Concentrated nose, shows much dark berry fruit, to blackberry, plum, elderberry, deep, in the background to black truffle. Full and powerful in the beginning and course, a lot of dark fruit, at the same time juicy and with a good drinking flow, at the back a lot of ripe cherry, dense, polished tannin, has everything what a great Chianti Classico should have!" Falstaff

"A red with earth, spices, dried fruits and figs on the nose, following through to a medium-bodied palate with firm tannins and a juicy finish." James Suckling

"The cherry and berry flavors are accented by leather, tobacco, iron and earth notes in this firm, dry red. The fruit is expressive and intense, with a solid structure and a finish that goes on for minutes." Wine Spectator

"Dark, saturated and rich, the 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione delivers savory tones of spice and smoke that are folded into dark fruit, prune and dried blackberry. Despite the darkness of the bouquet, this wine shows tartness and freshness in terms of its flavor profile. There is a lot of Sangiovese typicity here, thanks to the delineated character of those wild berry aromas and the crispness of the wine's natural acidity. A mere 2,400 bottles were produced." Robert Parker

"The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is breathtaking. Beautifully ripe, deep and expressive, the 2013 has it all: deep fruit, stunning aromatic presence and tremendous structure. Black cherry, pomegranate, rose petal, mint and lavender all meld together in this super-expressive, resonant Chianti Classico. An absolutely killer wine, the Gran Selezione is a fabulous, contemporary expression of Chianti Classico at its very finest." Vinous

    • "Gaia & Rey" Chardonnay Langhe DOP 2019

“Gaia & Rey” Chardonnay Langhe DOP 2019

Gaja's daughter Gaia and grandmother Rey were the inspiration for this wine: Gaia & Rey lies in the glass like golden jewellery and unfolds a balsamic fruit scent of yellow peaches, melon and banana. On the palate, the alcohol component and the use of wood are perfectly tamed by mineral and spicy components. SUPERIORE.DE

    • "La Fabriseria" Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva DOCG 2015

“La Fabriseria” Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva DOCG 2015

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico La Fabriseria shows itself massive and with seductive complexity. Deep bouquet of black berries and cocoa, violets and lavender. The taste is immensely fruity with aromas of cherry, blackberry and wild berry, plus the invigorating impressions of medicinal herbs again and again. The finish is elegant and long with a fine sweetness and a hint of mint. For us, one of the greatest wines of the Valpolicella! SUPERIORE.DE

"Powerful, bright ruby. Very clear and intense nose, full of dark currant sweets, dark cherry juice, spicy honey and some resin in the background. Dense and full-bodied in the attack and course, shows lots of grippy, dense tannin, flows clearly and calmly, dark pepper in the finish, very much storage potential." Falstaff

"A pure beam of crème de cassis and baked black cherry fruit flavors is accented by an enticing range of sandalwood, licorice and Earl Grey tea leaf notes in this finely meshed, medium- to full-bodied red. Long and mouthwatering, with a rich hint of fig cake and a tang of minerally iron playing on the lightly chewy finish." Wine Spectator

"Crushed violet, baked plum, underbrush and new leather aromas mingle together in the glass. Velvety and densely concentrated, the bold, delicious palate doles out mouthfuls of raspberry jam, steeped prune and baking spice before a tobacco finish. Despite its big, bold structure, it boasts refined tannins that provide seamless support and polish." Wine Enthusiast

"The 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva La Fabriseria trades power for elegance and feminine beauty. Notes of mineral-laced ripe cherries, currants, sage and cocoa gain in volume and depth with time in the glass. It's seamless and silky, coasting across a core of vibrant acids, with juicy red and black fruits giving way to sweet spice and pretty inner florals. A bitter hint of coffee and savory herbal notes join with tart blackberry and resonate for well over a minute. This is simply gorgeous." Vinous

    • "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2018
artist label "Vendemmia d'Artista - La Grazia"

“Ornellaia” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2018 · artist label “Vendemmia d’Artista - La Grazia“

We are pleased to be able to offer some copies of the special edition "La Grazia", which is strictly limited every year, as a 0.75l single bottle! This label is normally only reserved for bulk bottles, as well as the original 6-bottle wooden box each contains one of the bottles with the coveted collector's item.

The artist's edition "Vendemmia d'Artista" has been in existence since 2006. Since then, renowned artists have been invited each year to decorate a small edition of single and bulk bottles of Ornellaia. For the 2018 vintage, Belgian artist Jan Fabre was commissioned to design the limited labels. He explains: "I believe that art should combine ethical values and aesthetic principles. For this reason, I decided to use shapes such as the heart, crown, candle and wings in the sculptures for Ornellaia 2018. They are symbols of passion, virtue and purity, brought to life by the small branches and beads of red coral. And in 'A Candle of Mercy' or 'The Heart of Virtue' they melt away, like the melting magic of Ornellaia wine ...".

Ornellaia 2018 "La Grazia" (Grace & Grace) is the expression of a perfectly balanced vintage. After unusually hot and dry seasons, in 2018 the earth finally received the necessary rainfall and winter cold to rest and reset the vine's life cycle. Healthy grapes were harvested between 31 August and 8 October, with an excellent balance of acidity and sugar.

Pure bouquet of red fruits, mocha, spices, cassis, blood orange and dried flowers, very finesse for its youth. In the background, very restrained maquis, white smoke and traces of liquorice. Clear and firm on the palate, it only gradually reveals a terrific structure, fanning out fruit, tannins and a wonderfully harmonious acidity. One should not make the mistake of opening it too early, it will gain in elegance and depth over the years. SUPERIORE.DE

"The typical intense ruby red of Ornellaia 2018 has a lively and distinctive aroma that characterises the entire vintage. The flavour profile of the 2018 Ornellaia is characterised by an interplay of red fruits, citrus notes, aromas of liquorice and Mediterranean scrubland. On the palate, the wine is enveloping and well-proportioned: its tight yet silky tannin fills the palate with elegance and conciseness. The final reveals a pronounced spicy nuance that brings out the fresh and long aftertaste." Olga Fusari (Kellermeisterin Ornellaia)

"Medium-bodied ruby red with a rich centre and distinct violet-blue colouring and reflections. A wine that lives up to its name "La Grazia" already in the bouquet. Already in the first approach very appealing with a lot of blue fruit, finest vanilla bean and cedar, behind it the Mediterranean macchia and wonderful liquorice notes come to the fore. This is already very harmonious and seductive. The palate is enormously juicy and elegant with good density, the finely polished tannin is creamy, almost like velvet and silk, it lies on the tongue without heaviness. The acidity is already well integrated, perhaps it will lack a bit of tension for the very long journey, but this will be a subtle, early accessibleOrnellaia
with a high enjoyment factor." Weinwisser

"Sparkling, rich ruby with light violet shimmer. Opens with rich dark berry fruit, behind it resinous Mediterranean herbs, some cedar wood. Round and juicy on the palate, very nicely balanced, velvety, already amazingly well-integrated tannin, lardy and lots of plump fruit, reverberating with sandalwood and gingerbread." Falstaff

"Ornellaia 2018 is appealingly gentle now, but its tannin quality and fruit clarity suggest it has the attributes for greatness over the next 15 years or more. It is also notable for its unusually high Merlot content at 51% (with 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot). The Merlot benefitted, it seems, from 2018's alternate bouts of hot, sunny weather interspersed with reviving showers. A fruit-packed Ornellaia with bright flavours and a moreish, silky-smooth and sophisticated texture allied to a potentially wide drinking window." Decanter

"The 2018 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is complete and seamlessly stitched together with extreme care and precision. This is an almost technical blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that offers a true sense of wholeness and consistency that speaks to the blending expertise and experience of the winemaking team. Finding harmony among the various vinous components of the wine was especially important in this vintage that prized early-ripening grapes like Merlot over the others. Blackberry and dried cherry segue to spice, tar, campfire ash and more sweet fruit. We're off to a great start, and this vintage of Ornellaia is surely destined to flesh out and grow more complex with age." Robert Parker

"So aromatic and complex with blackcurrants, blueberries, fresh violets and lavender on the nose. Some graphite and iodine, too. Medium to full body with firm, chewy tannins that are polished and refined, yet the palate is so long and refined. This is an Ornellaia with strength in elegance." James Suckling

"The 2018 Ornellaia is an introvert at this stage. Medium in body, with terrific persistence and impeccable balance, the 2018 is not in any mood to show all its cards today. Hints of red berry fruit, mocha, spice, licorice and dried flowers emerge with a bit of coaxing. I won't be surprised to see it put on weight with more time in bottle. There is certainly plenty to look forward to. Readers should expect a silky, aromatic Ornellaia in line with vintages such as 2004 that are more about finesse than raw power. This is the first time in which Merlot drives the blend in Ornellaia." Vinous

    • Barolo "UnoPerUno" DOCG 2011

      Barolo “UnoPerUno” DOCG 2011

Fabulously elegant Barolo in bright ruby garnet from the Arborina single vineyard and "uno per uno", i.e. berry for berry, manually selected! The bouquet of flowers, wild berries and herbs unsurpassed in its harmony. Equally balanced on the palate, with deep fruit and silky tannins. The now second vintage UnoPerUno is a superlative! SUPERIORE.DE

"Shining ruby with a fine garnet shimmer. Very clear and fragrant in the nose, fine to pomegranate, raspberry, lots of cherry, also some saffron, resting in itself. On the palate dense and compact, but also shows a nice drinking flow, at first beautiful cherry and raspberry, then unfolds with firm, finely meshed tannin, builds a long arch, in the finish firm pressure, almost infinitely long." Falstaff

"The 2011 Barolo Unoperuno is an excruciating labor of love. Uno per uno means "one for one" in Italian and that's how each grape is removed from its cluster. With such a labor-intensive regime, only five barriques of this wine are produced. This manual destemming means that the wine does not show any of the bitter astringency you can get with stem inclusion or even mechanical destemming. The tannins come from the seeds. The Arborina vineyard is the source of fruit and this is the second year that Barolo Unoperuno is produced. It shows a lighter garnet color and pure aromas of wild berry, dried blueberries and cassis. This ensemble is finely textured and elegant. The tannins are silky and lightweight. It takes ten days and ten people to execute the destemming process." Robert Parker

"The 2011 Barolo Unoperuno is an experimental Barolo made from hand-destemmed Arborina fruit. Sweet, perfumed and lifted in the glass, the 2011 is intensely aromatic and silky. Succulent red cherries, spices and wild flowers all grace the palate in a silky Barolo that speaks to finesse. Nebbiolo is very hard to fully destem as the jacks are naturally fragile, the Unoperuno was made from hand destemmed fruit, a painstaking and time-consuming labor of love I have never seen in Piedmont. The two Arborina Barolos are markedly different in 2011, which is deeply thought provoking, to say the least." Antonio Galloni

"The purity in this wine is superb with plum, cedar and sandalwood. Silky tannins to the limit! Full, round and sexy. Totally handmade. Selected grape by grape. This is from the Arborina vineyard. To understand what nebbiolo is, taste this." James Suckling

    • "Ornellaia" Bianco Toscana IGT 2018

      “Ornellaia” Bianco Toscana IGT 2018

Ornellaia Bianco is a cuvée of mainly Sauvignon Bianco from three selected, small vineyards of Tenuta dell'Ornellaia. It ferments on the lees for 10 months, which gives it freshness, precision and a fine citrus note. Delicate golden yellow. A cornucopia of bright fruits on the nose, along with wonderful mint and citrus notes. Complex, lush and multi-layered on the palate. One of the very great white wines of Italy, completely in the style of the house. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Ornellaia Bianco is the fruit of the longest harvest Sauvignon Blanc grapes ever at Ornellaia. The harvest began shortly after mid-August and ended on 12 September, when the last Sauvignon Blanc grapes were brought into the cellar. This wine presents itself in an intense straw yellow and unfolds aromas of exotic fruits on the nose, accompanied by delicate nuances of finely toasted vanilla. On the palate, it is full-bodied, dense, with rich fruit, which is perfectly harmonised by a hearty acidity." Olga Fusari (Kellermeisterin Ornellaia)

"The 2018 Ornellaia Bianco is a powerful, dense wine. Orchard fruit, chamomile, saline notes and dried flowers open in the glass, but only with great reluctance. A rich white, the 2018 Bianco possesses tremendous weight, but it is also very much closed in on itself. I am intrigued to see how the 2018 ages." Vinous

"This vintage shows the usual understated or slightly reserved character that we've seen in past editions. With a little prodding and swirling, the bouquet opens gradually to reveal a pretty assortment of d'Anjou pear, white peach, honeysuckle and toasted almond. The wine is fermented in oak, but malolactic fermentation does not occur. There are pretty dustings of saffron and crushed stone that hint at the evolution and elegance to come with extra time in the bottle." Robert Parker

"Dried apple, lemon, lime and lemon curd on the nose with hints of cedar. Medium-to full-bodied with a solid core of fruit and a fresh, vivid finish. The vanilla cream and sliced fruit are so enticing. Just a hint of wood character at the end. Needs time to come together." James Suckling

    • "Monte Lodoletta" Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2013

“Monte Lodoletta” Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2013

A monument of wine! Brilliant dark ruby. Fresh, silky, elegant - and majestic. Blackberry jam, violets, bittersweet chocolate, plus crushed rock and minerality. An opulent wine with fabulously polished tannins and a considerable ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"Absurdly intense on the nose, saturated in dark-plum essence, vanilla, tar, ash, mocha and light raisins. Somehow, this still manages to be fresh and elegant — that’s thanks in part to the fine nature of the tannins, which on the surface seem brash and burly. Full-bodied and very, very long, casting dark fruit deep and ingrained. A stunning blockbuster of a wine that will either thrill or disturb." James Suckling

"The 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Monte Lodoletta needs time – and a lot of it – to show all of its charms. But worry not, because you can already find pleasure in its dramatic display of rich plums and cherries dipped in mocha-infused chocolate with a dusting of cinnamon sugar and sweet tobacco. This is black as night yet truly purple in color, with depths of concentrated wild berry fruits contrasted by zesty acids that do an amazing job of lifting the expression. Grippy tannins saturate slowly, sneaking up on you and lasting throughout the impossibly long black hole of a finish, where notes of licorice, bitters and a coating of cocoa powder linger. Wow. The 2013 is built for the cellar and with tons of upside potential. If you dare to delve into one of these while young, I’d suggest opening your bottle a number of hours prior to enjoying. That said, this will be worth the wait." Vinous

"The 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Monte Lodoletta is my favorite wine in the retrospective, along with the amazing 2011, 2009 and 1996 vintages. This wine was released at the beginning of this year, and because Dal Forno skipped over the 2014 vintage, this is the only Amarone we will see for a while (until the highly anticipated 2015 is released). The 2013 vintage is characterized by a slightly more streamlined mouthfeel (which isn't saying much given the baseline enormity of these wines) with carefully etched aromas of black cherry, rum cake, dark chocolate and toasted espresso. The 2013 vintage was balanced overall without the sudden heat waves we saw in the summers of 2011 and 2012. The grapes finished a slow and steady ripening process over an extended growing season. The effect is graceful and focused. Put this bottle aside in your cellar for the decades to come." Robert Parker

"A richly pungent red, with smoke and forest floor notes on the nose transitioning to a well-knit range of baked black cherry, bay leaf and dried fig flavors, with a touch of espresso. Full-bodied and dense, with the fine-grained tannins holding sway on the long, minerally finish." Wine Spectator

    • Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2011

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2011

The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva shows remarkable depth and concentration. In the dense bouquet complex aromas of dark red cherries, plums, exotic spices and notes of menthol and black tea. Full-bodied on the palate, elegant, with infinite fruit, silky tannins and smooth texture. Long and balanced in the finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, clear garnet red. Shows discreet smoky notes, some hazelnuts and flint, then pomegranate, cherries, goji berries, exciting. Compact and dense fruit on the palate, unfolds with a lot of polished, present tannin, starts in the back third once again fully through, long reverberation and sweet melt." Falstaff

"This wine floored me. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a stunning beauty and a wine well worth the attention (if you can afford its lofty pricing aspirations). Thankfully, the beauty of the contents will help alleviate some of the sticker shock. This is a supple and silky expression with an infinite array of Sangiovese-based aromas. You'll recognize wild cassis, forest floor, autumnal leaf, button mushroom, grilled herb, rosemary, balsam herb and red rose petal. The effect is fragrant and delicate. The mouthfeel is equally ethereal and nuanced. With only 3,500 bottles made, not many of us will have the luxury of trying this beautiful wine. And, that is really too bad." Robert Parker

"Initially reserved, this ethereal red took some time to open but it was worth the wait, revealing enticing scents of violet, wild berry, rosemary and Mediterranean brush. The palate is all about extreme elegance, offering wild cherry, crushed strawberry, grilled herb and star anise alongside firm, refined tannins." Wine Enthusiast

"Mid ruby with orange tinges. Hints of undergrowth and malt. Almost a tad jammy on the palate and then tangy strawberry fruit. Exotic, zesty, rich, multi-layered finish that goes on and on. Beautiful, chewy tannins." Jancis Robinson

"Fresh and vivid aromas of cherry and flower with cream undertones. Full body, firm and very silky with a beautiful intensity and precision. Excellent winemaking here." James Suckling

"A total pleasure bomb, Poggio di Sotto's 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva races across the palate with layers of intense, perfumed fruit and striking aromatics. Macerated dark cherry, spice, menthol and deeply spiced layers built to the huge, intense finish. The typical Poggio di Sotto volatile acidity is pretty much buried by the sheer density of the fruit. Best of all, the Riserva remains incredibly fresh and saline, which is so remarkable for the year." Antonio Galloni

Brunello di Montalcino “Vignavecchia” DOCG 2015 · 0,75l in OWC

Just 72 bottles of this extraordinary creature were released for the German market. At the same time, San Polo's latest growth comes from the oldest vines of the wine estate, the Vignavecchia single vineyard with a size of 2 hectares. The year 2015 brought not only very healthy berries but also ideal acidity and sugar levels. So, it is not surprising that Vignavecchia made it to the podium right away and that this Brunello is one of the highest-rated wines of the dream vintage.

Intense ruby red. The nose is flooded with ripe red berry fruits, violets, some forest floor and a subtle wood spice. On the palate then breathtakingly deep, complex and with terrific texture. The warm tannins and well-dosed acidity make each sip memorable, and the endlessly long final reverberates long after the bottle is already empty ... This wine fills Brunello lovers with great joy and only the most controlled among them will ever experience the terrific maturation potential of the Vignavecchia 2015. SUPERIORE.DE

"Aromas of underbrush, camphor and tobacco form the nose along with a whiff of prune. Tightly knit and full-bodied, the palate features black-cherry jam, licorice, roasted coffee-bean and toasted notes alongside close-grained, velvety tannins." Wine Enthusiast

"Released in numbered bottles, the Poggio San Polo 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Vignavecchia is a true beauty with the elegance, distinctive intensity and savory sophisticated flavors that you only get in this storied appellation in the southern half of Tuscany. With fruit from old vines, the wine is naturally denser and richer. This expression also shows more oak shadings, with pretty spice and smoke that frame the dark fruit. These various elements come together with impeccable precision and focus. I suggest giving this wine a few more years of cellar rest." Robert Parker

"This is a phenomenal new red from San Polo with superb depth and intensity with plum, wet earth and black truffle. Full body. Chewy and ripe tannins and a long and flavorful finish. The depth and beautiful is gorgeous. Needs three or four years to come together." James Suckling

    • Amarone della Valpolicella "Archivio Storico Zenato" Riserva DOC 2008
0,75l in OWC

Amarone della Valpolicella “Archivio Storico Zenato” Riserva DOC 2008 · 0,75l in OWC

The heart project "Archivio Storico Zenato" was created by Nadia Zenato in order to pay special attention to the excellence of an entire region. Just 2,000 bottles of 0.75l and 400 magnums each are sold in selected specialist shops.

The grapes for this jewel come from the oldest vines of the hills of Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella. During and after the harvest a strict selection of the grapes takes place, then the grapes dry in small wooden boxes (fruttai) in well ventilated rooms and are gently pressed at the end of the Appassimento process. The fermentation takes place on the skins for about 20 days, after which the wine matures for 10 years in a large Slavonian oak barrel. SUPERIORE.DE

"A rich, harmonious red, offering a lovely, detailed range of baked cherry, toffee, dried lemon thyme, fig cake and toasted cardamom flavors, with a subtle smoky underpinning. Soft, citrus peel acidity and seamlessly integrated creamy tannins provide a fine, supple frame. This is aging gracefully." Wine Spectator

"The 2008 Amarone della Valpolicella Archivio Storico Zenato is available in numbered bottles (I tasted bottle 0237 of 2,500 made). The packaging is elegant, and the bottle is made with heavy glass. The contents are rich and almost overdone with spice, jammy ripe fruit and blackberry preserves. Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta and Croatina grapes are dried for 120 days. Despite the wine's large and heavy frame, it does carry itself with impressive elegance and grace." Robert Parker

"This is an amazing Amarone with incredible aromas of dried fruit, raisins, chocolate and spice. Intense dried flowers. Fruit tea. Minerals. Full-bodied with a deep and rich finish. Juicy and chewy. Incredible structure. Dry finish. One to age for decades ahead in the cellar. Only 2,000 bottles made." James Suckling

    • Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2015

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2015

With the fruit-driven, round and almost perfect in all components 2015 vintage, the Riserva of Poggio di Sotto climbs new spheres. It is not only an enormously classic representative of the appellation, but it also presents that certain little bit more of all components, which makes it a very great wine and makes it stand out from the sea of very good 2015s. On the nose and palate, an inspiring potpourri of primary and secondary fruit. From cherry, crème de cassis, tar, liquorice and balsamic herbal spice to perfectly integrated tannin and a refined cedar component, we find everything here that makes a highly complex red. A classic that could not be more perfect. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling, brightening ruby-garnet. Finely marked nose with distinct notes of ripe raspberries, juicy, fresh cherries and a hint of leather. Very impressive on the palate, fine, slightly grippy tannin in many layers characterises the wine, embedded in fine melting, ripe red berry fruit, firm pressure on the final." Falstaff

"Extremely perfumed with black-cherry, plum and red-cherry aromas that follow through to a full body with very fine, pretty tannins that follow through to a flavorful finish. Pretty balance and refinement. All about finesse." James Suckling

"Poggio Di Sotto's 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is undeniably elegant and feminine, impressing with an alluring bouquet which mixes spiced black cherry with hints of sage, mint, dried roses and white smoke. It enters the palate soft, lifted and youthfully understated, cascading bright red fruits laced with minerals across a core of stimulating acids as nuanced tannins slowly build. An air of red currant, licorice and inner florals linger, as the 2015 Riserva flexes its structural muscle throughout the cheek-puckering finale. This will require quite a bit of cellaring to fill out and settle down, yet is sure to be worth the wait. I followed the 2015 Riserva over the course of four days and it never declined." Vinous

"There's a leafy underbrush element to this red, punctuating the cherry, strawberry and earth flavors. Compact for now, yet balanced, with a taut, reserved finish. Offers tension and suppleness, with plenty in reserve." Wine Spectator

    • Barbaresco Asili Riserva DOCG 2014

      Barbaresco Asili Riserva DOCG 2014

Barbaresco Riserva Asili is beautifully perfumed, rose petals and ripe berries, splendid in its round, sensual fruit. On the palate, opulent, elegant and rich in irresistibly silky tannins that produce even more substance and richness than the white label. A wine of breathtaking beauty and great longevity. SUPERIORE.DE

"A magnificent result for 2014, but then this is a legendary wine: a top bottling from a top estate. The nose is rich, juicy, and exuberant, with piquant raspberry aromas. It's undoubtedly rich and full-bodied, and there's no lack of volume or concentration. The tannins are bold and fleshy, and the wine overall is surprisingly succulent and approachable. Very long, grainy finish." Decanter

"Fluid and juicy, with savory notes of menthol and juniper, matched to the cherry and currant fruit. Underlined by a mineral element, this features a serious whack of tannins on the finish, yet the lasting impression is of sweet, ripe cherry and berry flavors, showing wonderful length." Wine Spectator

"The 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Asili represents a tremendous effort in a challenging but ultimately very rewarding vintage. The previous edition was 2011, and Bruna Giacosa tells me that it will be produced in 2016 and possibly 2017—although this has not yet been officially confirmed. Growing conditions in 2014 were cause for concern up until the end of August because of humidity and below average temperatures. Those conditions changed suddenly in the nick of time, bringing strong sunshine and warmth during the final stage of grape ripening. Ultimately, 2014 proved to be a long growing season with healthy fruit in reduced volume. The Rabajà cru sometimes shows a harder edge with more mineral definition. Asili, in comparison, offers gorgeous intensity and profound depth. This Riserva shows seamless integration of wild fruit, blue flower, spice, balsam herb and pencil shaving. This is a complete and complex expression with an enduring sense of dimension and structure. I can’t wait to taste this wine one day in the far future when it is further along on its promising evolutionary track." Robert Parker

"Incredible aromas of violets, roses and blue fruits. So perfumed. Never smelled a wine like this before. Full body, perfectly integrated tannins and bright, vivid acidity. Extremely long and endless. A seamless and great one. An evocative wine that makes you think. Needs three to five years of bottle age on release. Unique red." James Suckling

    • "Monte Lodoletta" Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2008

“Monte Lodoletta” Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2008

Sparkling, rich ruby with a light garnet edge. Intense bouquet of dark berries, plums, slightly raisiny, very balanced. On the palate almost explosive and multi-layered, with a wonderfully smooth texture like velvet and silk, then soft, sweetish and dense tannin, builds up endlessly. SUPERIORE.DE

"Impenetrable dark lustrous ruby. Like the 2008 Valpolicella but exponentially augmented: chalky dense fruit and succulent acidity. Muscular tannins. Long, intense and wonderfully composed at the same time in spite of its 16.5% (!)." Jancis Robinson

"This is a lighter, more elegant style from Dal Forno, reflecting the cooler vintage conditions in 2008. The juicy palate is balanced by a wonderful level of structure, with slightly generic but ripe plum and hedgerow fruit with violet lift. A textural mid-palate leads onto a creamy cherry fruit finish." Decanter

"The new Dal Forno winery was finished in 2008, complete with the unique vacuum-sealed fermentation tasks that help to avoid any intrusive oxygen during winemaking. Indeed, this wine is balanced and elegant with fruit that is still crunchy and very much alive. The tannins are firm and nicely integrated into the wine's thick, fleshy consistency. This vintage is characterized by a very elegant and graceful approach, which must be taken into context given the enormity of a wine of this caliber. Happily, there is no doubt that this vintage should still evolve steadily over time." Robert Parker

"The 2008 Amarone della Valpolicella is compelling. With a little air, the tannins begin to soften, releasing a myriad of intense dark aromas and flavors. Bittersweet chocolate, cloves, violets, plums and blackberry jam cover every inch of the palate in a stunning, headspinning Amarone that captures all of the best qualities of the year. When Romano Dal Forno's wines are on, there is nothing quite like them, and that is certainly the case here. If opened young, the 2008 needs a little air. Actually, a lot of air." Vinous

    • Barolo "Vite Talin" DOCG 2014

      Barolo “Vite Talin” DOCG 2014

Intense ruby red with garnet reflections. In the bouquet red berries, spices and a cornucopia of further aromas, which open up only with further oxygenation. On the palate fleshy, juicy, powerful and extremely precise and structured. At today's still very young age, one can only guess what it will become in further years of bottle maturity. A monument of wine - already today - the tannins soft, multilayered and captivating. This is the archetype of a Nebbiolo, which impressively demonstrates to every friend of the grape variety that it is not necessarily always the vineyard but also the quality of the grape and the subsequent wise vinification that makes it a real red and unforgettable royal wine of Italy. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, intense ruby with garnet rim. Very compact nose of blackberry, blueberry and some truffle. Plucky and dense on the palate, concentrated tannin, lush fruit, lots of plum and cherry, deep and earthy final." Falstaff

"The 2014 Barolo Vite Talin is robust, with broad shoulders and beautiful aromas of spice and herbs. There is a fullness and generosity to its meaty notes, while it shows a more rustic side when put side by side with the 2015: The tannins here make their presence well known, and the wine has a wild side overall. The Vite Talin is a wine that has a way of responding to difficult harvests like this one. The grapes survived for a reason, and what you get here is not your classic approach to Barolo at all. This expression explores new boundaries, and it will be a hard wine to forget. This Barolo was born following 25 years of experimentation, and only 2,200 precious bottles were made." Robert Parker

"The 2014 Barolo Vite Talin is shaping up to be one of the wines of the vintage. A powerful, unctuous wine, it possesses off-the-charts intensity married with striking nuance. Dark red cherry jam, plum, lavender, spice, rose petal and mint are some of the many nuances that flesh out. In 2014, the Vite Talin is a wine of extraordinary finesse, nuance and classicism. It will spend two years in 500-liter barrels and a third year in cask. Tasting the 2014, I can only wonder why the other Barolos don't get the same élevage. I won't be surprised if the 2014 one day surpasses the 2013 - it is every bit that thrilling. Wow!" Vinous

Very individualistic and quite extraordinary cuvée from Colorino, Canaiolo and Sangiovese. The bouquet is full of dark berries and the scent of elderflowers. Dense and powerful on the palate, yet slender, very clear, pithy, polished tannins and a long, full finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Powerful, with leather, plum tart, earth and tar flavors, backed by a vibrant structure. This shows heft, but a racy side lends definition to the refined finish." Wine Spectator

"I love the balance and beauty to this red with dried-strawberry, cherry and flower character. Full-bodied but reserved and polished. Ultra-fine tannins. Lively, creamy acidity. I like the volcanic salt undertone to the fruit." James Suckling

      “Colore” Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

Powerful, very attractive exceptional wine. Smells of strawberry and cherry, spices and a hint of leather. Tastes juicy, very special and impresses with taut tannin and persistent length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich, rich ruby with a fine garnet shimmer. Appealing, intense nose with notes of plums, wild raspberry, underlaid with delicate cinnamon. Lots of juicy cherry fruit on the palate, opens with fine, grippy tannin, clear and smooth, firm pressure on the final." Falstaff

"The nose shows real elegance and spice and subtle notes of dried herbs. Such firm tannins that are backed up by wonderful fresh acidity. The palate has a light peppery note and seems to glide over the palate, stopping only to tickle the roof of your mouth. Savoury and sapid, extremely impressive." Jancis Robinson

"This is suave and expands on the palate, with cherry, black currant, mineral and woodsy underbrush notes. Shows purity to the fruit, along with support from the fine-grained tannins and lively acidity. Excellent length." Wine Spectator

"A blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino from three far-removed vineyard parcels in different areas of Tuscany, the 2016 Colore is something of a pan-Tuscan wine. This ambitious wine gives voice to three of the region's most important red grape varieties as well as its most diverse territories (Lamole in Chianti Classico, Vincigliata near Florence and Siena province in the southern part of Tuscany). As a result, this is a statement wine with a lot to say to those careful enough to listen. It's important to be attentive to the details, the small berry fruit aromas that intermingle with nuances of spice, granite stone and pressed blue flower. Pure summer cherry is the dominant aroma on first nose, but it slowly disintegrates as the wine takes on more air to reveal those lighter and more delicate aromas at the back. This vintage offers an ideal dose of structure matched against freshness. Bibi Graetz tells me that fruit in 2015 was beautiful, perfect to look at. Fruit in 2016, however, appeared more sculpted with more darkness and weight. On some level, those descriptions also apply to the character of these two gorgeous back-to-back vintages." Robert Parker

"The aromas are always so complex with cherries, blackberries, rosemary, sage and spice. Full-bodied, very tight and polished with a dense and powerful palate, which opens and grows, yet remains agile and beautiful. A solid red. Wonderful segue from the 2015. Try after 2022." James Suckling
