Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011

Camigliano | Toskana

Camigliano S.r.l. | Via d'Ingresso 2 | IT 53024 Montalcino

"The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino opens to soft layers of plush fruit and red cherry. The wine shows a ripe side to the vintage with bold fruit that is chewy and rich. Despite the wine's opulence, it never feels jammy or overdone. In fact, it reins in that extra sunshine with expert care and attention. In contrast to the richness of the bouquet, the medium-bodied mouthfeel is toned and exhibits less dimension overall. The appeal here is genuine and immediate." Robert Parker

"A beautiful, sexy wine with exotic aromas of freshly cut flower, cherry and strawberry. Full body with fine, silky tannins. Long, fresh finish." James Suckling

Castello Banfi | Toskana

Banfi S.r.l. | Loc. Castello di Poggio alle Mura snc | IT 53024 Montalcino

"Castello Banfi has maintained an excellent reputation for consistency over the years. The performance of its base Brunello offers solid evidence of this. If you look back at the scores over the years, you will see less fluctuation between the good vintages and the bad ones. That consistency is achieved thanks to significant investments in manpower and technology. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino beautifully illustrates my point. The wine is openly redolent of Sangiovese-driven aromas of wild berry, underbrush and spice. The finish is long, silky and the tannins are polished. This wine should hold well for the next ten years." Robert Parker

"Love the complex aromas of raspberries, strawberries and minerals. Full body with fine, refined tannins with currant, blueberry and cherry flavors wrapped up in the tannic structure. A wine that that will deliver much more in a year or two." James Suckling

"Plum and earth flavors mark this ripe, meaty red. Shows good freshness, winding down with leafy and tobacco notes. Delivers fine balance and a long finish." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011

Il Poggione | Toskana

Tenuta Il Poggione | Loc. Monteano | S. Angelo in Colle | IT 53024 Montalcino

"Il Poggione has done a terrific job with its 2011 Brunello di Montalcino. The wine is soft, yielding and charged with a velvety and smooth texture. It is deeply redolent of dark berry, black cherry, spice, leather and tobacco. The wine's sunny personality never feels flat or too dense. In fact, the wine offers a very tight and steely backbone that gives the wine stature and strength. This is one of my favorite Brunellos from the 2011 vintage." Robert Parker

"A dark, powerful wine, the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino offers notable depth and intensity. Il Poggione's 2011 is one of the richest, most powerful wines of the year. Black cherry, plum, lavender, cloves and new leather are some of the first nuances that open up. With time in the glass, the 2011 becomes more lifted, as brighter red cherry and raspberry-infused flavors gradually release. This is a rare 2011 that demands at least a good few years in the cellar. In 2011, Il Poggione did not bottle a Riserva. All the juice went into the straight Brunello." Antonio Galloni

"A red with plum, meat, cedar and sandalwood character on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, tight and structured. Racy finish. Refined at the end for a 2011." James Suckling

"A beefy style, evoking plum, leather, tobacco and earth flavors, backed by dense, dusty tannins. Starts out juicy before the gruff finish takes over. Fresh and long." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010

Tenuta Fanti | Toskana

Tenuta Fanti | Loc. Podere Palazzo 14 | IT 53024 Castelnuovo dell' Abate

"The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a very pretty wine. This forward, fruit-driven Brunello offers considerable near and medium-term appeal. Sweet dark cherries, spices, new leather, cedar and vanillin add nuance on the supple, persistent finish. All the elements come together in an effortless, juicy Brunello from Fanti. This is very nicely done." Antonio Galloni

"A big, powerful red, with dense tannins and black cherry and blackberry flavors. Balanced in a muscular way, this remains tight and brooding despite the long, fresh finish. Shows potential." Wine Spectator

"A layered and rich wine with dried berry, peach pit and slightly bitter toasted oak. Full body, silky tannins with lots of rich and buttressed fruit. A structured and powerful wine. Needs three to five years to soften." James Suckling

"The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a dark and well-saturated wine that puts on a very nice show. It shows immediate fruit and spice and delivers these characteristics in a very direct and matter-of-fact manner. This is a proud Brunello with no hidden messages or meanings. It portrays the grape with honesty, placing emphasis on freshness and silkiness of tannins. Sweet cherry and cinnamon make for cheerful end notes." Robert Parker

Campogiovanni | Agr. San Felice | Toskana

Soc. Agr. San Felice S.p.A. | Corso Italia 23 | IT 20122 Milano

"Dark red cherries, mocha, smoke, new oak, tobacco and spices are some of the notes that flesh out in the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino from Campogiovanni. Fleshy and seductive on the palate, the 2010 possesses terrific depth, richness and volume, all in a round, supple style that offers plenty of near and medium-term appeal. This is an excellent choice for drinking over the next decade or so." Antonio Galloni

"Black cherry, black currant, cedar and tobacco flavors highlight this firm, dense red. Has the fruit, structure and harmony to develop, along with a lingering wild herb and mineral aftertaste." Wine Spectator

"Perfect aromas to this red with licorice, stone, peach pit, plum, leather, and iron. Full body, fine and silky tannins support a deep and rich fruit concentration that shows black fruit, Tuscan dust and oyster shell. Needs four or five years to soften but an amazing finish." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010 Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010

La Gerla | Toskana

Fattoria La Gerla | Loc. Canalicchio | Pod. Colombaio | IT 53024 Montalcino

Falstaff

"Mittleres, warmes Rot; verhalten, kompottige Frucht, Reife; im Mund angenehm, gereift, saftig, gewisse Frucht, gute Länge." Merum

"This opens with earthy aromas of wild berry, truffle, underbrush, leather and tilled soil. The savory palate offers juicy cherry, crushed raspberry and savory herb alongside polished tannins. It’s not loaded with complexity but it’s already smooth and delicious." Wine Enthusiast

"Aromas of dried chili and salt with hints of oyster shell. Dried berry and cherry. Sweet cherry. Full body, chewy and very intense, very dried fruit character. Opens to a beautifully silky textured finish." James Suckling

"Dark spice and dried cherry aromas open the bouquet of the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino. This may be the best base Brunello I have tasted from La Gerla. The wine is distinguished by a heightened sense of uniformity, especially where the bouquet is concerned. You can easily identify tones of cherry, spice, leather cola and licorice that are typical of the Sangiovese grape. Wait a few minutes, and the wine begins to shows finely etched tones of grilled Mediterranean herb, ash and dried ginger. The nose is penetrating and deep with etched mineral tones at the back. This lovely wine also exhibits silky, long tannins on the smooth finish." Robert Parker

"La Gerla's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is absolutely delicious. Dark red cherries, plums, mint, smoke, tobacco and licorice flesh out in a wine that offers notable depth, structure and power. The 2010 is medium in body and also quite polished, yet there is a level of inner sweetness and perfume that makes the wine incredibly appealing, even today. Ideally, though, readers should give the 2010 at least a few years in the cellar. The precise, delicate finish is a thing of beauty." Antonio Galloni

Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona | Toskana

Az. Agr. Ciacci Piccolomini | Loc. Molinello | IT 53024 Castellnuovo

"The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a very beautiful wine that shows a fraction of good things to come. Very fruit-driven at the moment, it should flesh out further with time. Evident fruit underlines the warm growing conditions of this vintage. You get dark cherry, raspberry, dried strawberry and plum. The bouquet doesn't feel overripe per se, but you definitely get a taste of the warm growing season. Delve deeper, and this Brunello begins to reveal spice, herb, cola, tar and black licorice. These elements form the base of the wine's budding complexity. As nice as this wine is to drink now, I look forward to trying it five years from now." Robert Parker

"The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is fabulous. In 2011, proprietor Paolo Bianchini bottled just one Brunello. That commitment to quality comes through loud and clear. Dark cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco and licorice all flesh out in an effortless, incredibly inviting wine. The warmth of the vintage and the natural generosity of these vineyards in Castelnuovo is evident, yet the 2011 possesses remarkable balance to match all of that intensity. I don't expect the 2011 to make old bones, but is gorgeous today. Readers should expect a flamboyant, decadently full-throttle wine built on voluptuousness and generous, racy fruit. Bianchini gave the 2011 three full years in cask." Antonio Galloni

"The aromas of wet earth, sliced mushroom and blueberry are very pretty. Full body, firm tannins. Structured and firm. Excellent." James Suckling

"Earthy and structured, this opens with aromas suggesting underbrush, grilled porcini, sunbaked earth, wild berry and dried aromatic herb. The big, bold palate doles out layers of mature black cherry, raspberry jam, licorice, sage, tobacco and black tea. Firm, velvety tannins provide structure and finesse." Wine Enthusiast

"The 2008 Brunello di Montalcino is gorgeous. Cloves, menthol, plums and smoke wrap around the palate as this rich, resonant wine shows off its textural volume and depth. Ripe, silky tannins support a finish that is striking for its beauty and softness. This is a terrific showing from one of my favorite under-the-radar estates in Montalcino." Robert Parker

"The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino shows a very distinct personality that separates it from its peers. There's a dark, mysterious and masculine side to this wine that is evident from first impact. The bouquet offers infinite layers of black fruit, plum, spice, cumin seed and crushed clove. You get a great sense of moist earth, tobacco and forest floor. Nothing is obvious. The wine keeps you guessing sip after sip. It would benefit from more years of cellar aging, but it's really not that far off from optimal drinking." Robert Parker

"Altesino's 2011 Brunello di Montalcino opens with beguiling aromatics. Sage, licorice, menthol and sweet tobacco flesh out nicely as the wine shows off its ample, broad personality. The tannins could use another year or two to soften, but all the elements are very nicely balanced throughout. This gracious, silky Brunello will drink well for the next decade-plus." Antonio Galloni

"This is long and delicious with lovely cherry, chocolate and fresh walnut flavors. Linear yet open with persistence and joy." James Suckling

"Fragrant and sleek, this opens with scents of blue flower, pressed powder, perfumed berry and chopped herb. The balanced, full-bodied palate delivers licorice, ripe black cherry, clove and tobacco while firm, velvety tannins lend structure and finesse." Wine Enthusiast
